Default B16a2 Vtec Problem

Alright, so i have a 00 civic si..i just bought it. A friend was telling me that i have no vtec it trys to kick in at 5500 but kicks out and keeps accelerating..cars runs alright but no vtec..he said it could be either my dizzy or my vtec solenoid..car does have oil and fuel..did recent tune up..if i get a new distributor..which what we he think is the cause, can it be from a gsr..and could that be the problem of vtec not kicking in? and does it have to be from a b series engine the one i have now is gsr..but were not sure if that thiers something wrong anyone know what the problem could be..

We also tried switching ecu's from his 00 si..it didnt make a difference so i know it could not be my ecu..

Before you do that, take out the Vtec selenoid and just clean it with some brake cleaner and then try again. It might just be junked up

double check ur oil level and make sure that it is correct
u will be fine running a gsr ecu...
so did u say that vtec doesnt work at all or kicks on and off?
im pretty sure it doesnt have anything to do with ur dizzy...

double check the oil level as said before. Vtec does not engage below a certain oil pressure. Also make sure the engine is warm when doing this :-p, some people over look it.

okay..car is warmed up..but yes it kicks in and out at 5500 rpm car only has 47000 miles..i should be able to hear vtec kick in hard especially with b16..(Example) i raced a 91 integra and i barely won by a fender length..i shoulda dumped on him when vtec kicked in but it never did.
How do i clean the solenoid take it off? and clean inside?..(i know how to check oil)also how do i check my oil pressure.

Im new to this so please explain it very easy thankx.

u will not be able to know what ur oil pressure is until u get ur oil pressure gauge....the solenoid is attached by 3 10mm bolts on the exhaust side of ur head...when u take it off take a look at the screen and see if it is gunked up...if it is i usually remove it and hit it with sum brake cleaner real quick...make sure u dont get brake cleaner on any of the rubber gaskets...it will cause em to dry up and potentialy leak...if it is not clogged u will have to check if the solenoid is good or not...also try grounding the pressure switch to the chassis and see if it makes a difference

ull see a wire that has been screwed down under a small bolt on ur solenoid...sometimes the bolt can get loose and cause a faulty connection...u have to run that wire to a chassis point where it will be making clean contact with bare metal...sand off the paint in the small spot where u will be mountin it...
are u throwin any codes?

hook a test light up to it and take it for a drive. if it lights then it is probably the solenoid. if it doesnt then id say its oil pressure. give it some fresh oil
