Default Using synthetic 5w-30......now i smell oil burning.....

I just changed from Quaker state 10w-30 to Valvoline Full Synthetic 5 w-30 in my B16A3......

And I smell oil burning from engine bay.....not exhaust though...

I always have had a very slight leak around v-tec syloniod and round lower section of the block.......

but It really smells like burning now....

maybe I need to go back to 10w-30 stuff.

not necessarily, it could be that you over filled it a little to much. did you smell it right after you changed or later. becuase if you smelt it right after could just be you might have spilled little on the headers or whereever lots of heat is. if later you could have over filled it, or you just need some new rings and its just becoming noticable.

no spills....

not over filled.....i checked the stick.....

and yes it was the next day I noticed it.

Not sure if it is the rings.....cause, it can't smell it in the exhaust.....just under the hood.

I'm guessing the "thinner" oil maybe be seeping through the fine cracks and what not that the 10w-30 couldn't. I guess anyway.

did you spill any oil on the valve cover? also if you have a leak and you put a lower viscosity (spelling) oil in your motor a leak is going to seem to leak more. A leak near your vtec solenoid sounds like an exhaust cam seal leak if your motor is dohc. fairly cheap fix.

depending on how many miles u got, synthetic will find a leaky spot reaaaaaaaal quick.....best bet is to run synthetic blend.....after a lot of miles switching wont do anything but cost u more money. Go for the blend if anything......good luck
