Default I WONDER WHY MY VTEC DON'T KICK IN AT ALL???

I HAVE BOUGHT MY 1993 DEL SOL SOHC VTEC D16Z6 FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. I HAVE BEEN PUMPING PREMIUM GAS. I WONDER IF I DON'T FEEL MY VTEC KICK IN AT ALL. IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN REPAIR IT OR MAYBE TECHNICS TO MAKE IT KICK IN AT LEAST?

wow

couple things

1) turn your damn caps lock off, its very annoying to read

2) why are you running premium? octane does NOT equal horsepower.

3) its a single cam. vtec is very hard to hear "kick" as you put it. how do you know its not working?

Vtec in SOHC are not as noticeable as in DOHC, and the fact that you got a heavy del sol doesn't make it any better. But with bolt-ons you should be able to hear the cross over but not really feel it. Good Luck

The sad truth is that with a SOHC engine, you will never hear/feel that VTEC kick like you get with a DOHC engine. PERIOD.

So the DOHC B16 VTEC kicks in harder than the SOHC huh? I never new that one. I put premium so that i can get better performance where I can maybe feel the VTEC. And after I have install in and out ( Intake,Exhaust, Header) I still don't feel anything. I guess what yall say about SOHC VTEC is true. That when they kick in they dont kick in as hard as DOHC. I have test drive a few DOHC and I surely can feel their VTEC when it kicks in.

Also. Your car is low compression etc etc etc

run 87 gas. youre wasting your money on no performance gains. Its meant to run on 87, so run it on 87.

nevertheless the cleaning additives in premium gas always help with the life on ones motor.

those cleaning additives are totally worthless when your engine is running the wrong octane and struggling to make the power it should. those additives then become deposits and rob performance

there is NO reason to run any higher octane, on a stock car, than whats reccomended in the manual. period. you are wasting money and power.

iight I have a 1993 Del Sol with a D16z6 and I hear my VTEC kick-in just fine, but then again I do have a CAI which makes it easier for me to hear it. I suggest you get an CAI first and see if you hear VTEC kick-in...should happen at around 4800 rpm but for sure before 5000 rpm...if you dont hear it, then somethings wrong dude

you could always run a LED to the VTEC solenoid to see if it's actually working. but yeah, like others said. you won't really feel it but you might be able to hear it.

VTEC doesn't kick. It's a honda noise maker.
