Depends on what type of cat and res. you have. But in Cali you probably will get 2 blocks or so before pulled over. but no it wont hurt your car. Open header hurts your car.

well it wont really hurt your motor... but your car will just be loud since u have no muffler... and it'll probably just waste gas faster then before...

SUPER loud hurts your car now?
all those decibals must rattle the car to pieces...

seriously folks, this is an honest question...
how does running an open header hurt your car?
if you have 2 bungs to plug your o2 sensors in its not hurting your motor... maybe robbing it from a little back pressure...
open header is bad for the enviroment...
but i just dont see how its bad for the car.

the only thing open headers will hurt besides the enviorment is your wallet... cuz it eats up your gas like a fat kid eats cake!!!

Running open header allows cold air to sip back into the head. When the valves are nice and hot that will cause them to warm and loose there shape in the end bend.

Yeah. When you shut off the car the valves will cool too fast and can become brittle. Running with no muffler won't hurt your motor, but it'll be very loud and running NA it will probably cause you to lose low-end power.

Plus you lose torque.

You are aware that a naturally aspirated engine requires a certain level of back pressure to run properly right? So if you lack this amount of back pressure the enigne will not run correctly.

You also have the possibility of cracking a valve because it was cooled too quickly.

Go away.

yeah, thats where back pressure came into play.

i wanted to know of any physical damage...
cooling metal too fast will definitely ruin someones day.

You can do it, but it's going to be loud. Depending on where you live you may get a fix-it ticket, but you could always try explaining your prediciment and tell him that it'll be fixed by next weekend.

Taking your muffler off gives your car extra power. So besides from being too loud, theres nothing it could really do to hurt your motor. Another thing is, all the smoke/fuels & everything else coming out is going to be forced out under your car instead of behind it(but that wont do anything)............ Anyways, iv heard that people with B18C's running open headers improve there 1/4 times by .2-.5 seconds. So does that mean there messing up there cars running open headers for that one night at the tracks?

Well the main thing is you lose low end with an open header. People running their cars at the track never see low rpms so it really doesn't matter, you gain a bit in the top end. I think what everyone is talking about is running open header on the road, it really doesn't make sense, its loud as ****, you lose low end power, so theres really no point to running it on the street. On the track tho, thats a different story.

Lol
I ran with a header and part of an apexi b pipe all the way to new york
Loud but doable.
Worst part is that when vtec engages, you lose power because of the nonexistent back pressure!
