I was wondering if a Type R Tranny would fit in my 95 RS with B18B1. What's the difference between this tranny and my RS Tranny? Is it reliable? Would it improve performance significantly?

I also hear about LSD, what is that?

 

LSD= Limited Slip Differential

Someone else can explain it better than me but with the open differentials that most of us have torque only reaches one wheel when you're accelerating or turning or whatever. An LSD makes sure both front wheels get power so traction is improved but the wheels can still turn different speeds (like when going around a corner).

As far as I know a type R tranny will fit your car fine. It's closer gear ratios will make your car quicker but at highway speeds you'll be revving pretty high even in 5th gear.

10 Times more reliable then any other B series stock trannies (doesnt mean u can powershift all day)

LSD= ACID, but mainly Limited Slip Differential (causes both tires to spin in a burnout or a launch instead of the normal 1 wheel honda burnouts)

The Type R trans is a direct bolt in unit. Just be sure to get the Type R speedo pick up or your speedo will be off. If you put that trans in your car, you'll probobly swear that its the best mod you've ever done. I love mine!

 

Greatt mod if you are in the city a lot and like the street racing scene... or track for that matter.. in a way... on the highway, you are just going to wear your engine being at such high rpm's just to keep up with traffic. that right their woudl be enough to tell me "no"

as for being the best honda tranny... thats an opinion. the gears are mae of the same material, as is the casing. the only thing that is different is gear ratios and the fact that it comes with the LSD. Most people will prefer the tranny that you have for forced induction cars due to the longer gear ratios. me personally, the longer gear ratios are going to help me on the track b/c i can stay on the bottle that much longer (I'll be shifting @ 11,500 RPM's)... this definatly helps.

If you really want the a tranny with closer gears, find anyone with a civic si, integra gsr, or type r, that has put on a turbo. They would probably trade you straight up... but they will most likely keep the LSD .

 

 

Pb- highway driving is not going to be affected by the ITR trans wear and tear wise on the engine, but trust me it will be a lot more fun on the freeway

yea i picked up a jdm itr tranny with the 4.785FD and i love it, the car feels so much different

 

you're saying that... 5,000 RPM's as opposed to 3,500 RPM's with the cruise set @ 80 MPH (just trying to show that your RPM's will definatly be higher) isn't going to cause more wear and tear? I could argue that all night long... it is a FACT that the higher you rev the shorter your engine life... not by a huge factor... but if you are on the highway with the cuise set @ 80, or 90-100 for that fact.... you are practically burying your tach... that's not good.

 

why would honda put that tranny in the type r and db2 ( for the unintelligent...the g2 gsr..the good ones ) if it was gonna tear up everything since it has high rpms on the highway? gas mileage is way better at highway speeds , b/c yer set at a certain rpm. i can show engines and tranny 'all night long' that have seen WELL over 100k and still doing well. I love my ys-1, and would only trade it for a y1 w/ lsd,( or whatever that j1, s1, y1 tranny was w/ lsd. ) honestly, i would never swap trannies ( unless forced which.......wont happen ) and i love my gearing. the more power you make, the faster you fly through the gears, just watch that tac fly!! yeehaww!!

but seriously, my ys1 rawks, and i'd recommend it to anyone, but if you like going the speed limit on all backroads keep yer long-geared ls. my 2 cents.

 

The VTEC engine is meant to be at those RPM's... nothing wrong with an ITR witht he cruise @ 90 MPH... It's the B18A/B that has a redline over 2k RPMs lower that suffers from the higher rpm's for extended periods of time. The longer gears are much better for f/i and drag racing b/c you can lay the power down longer (less switching gears for example). At the 1/8th I only use 1st and 2nd gear. With the ITR tranny I would be half way through 3rd... whenever you are not on the gas you are giving up precious time. I'm not saying that the ITR tranny's short gears are going to hurt your engine... but I am saying that if you drive on the highway a lot, you really will regret the higher rpm's you'll be stuck at.
