Yeah, it's worse than you think. They have random check points- looks like a DUI field sobriety check point. They block off some lanes and funnel you into one lane then pick out the cars they think are suspect ie: lowered Honda's/Acura's (I believe this would be called profiling) They then jack your car up look for cat and other emissions related components that could be missing or are illegal. Then they put the car on their handy little portable emmisions dyno and test your car. No cat= big, big big (read big) fine. Dont pass smog= gross polluter= lots of time off work going to a "test only" state inspection site. Not fun.
Go high flow cat and save the drama. Sure you'll miss the 1-2 HP but think of all the goodies you would could buy by avoiding hefty penalties.

Anyways, the test pipe is for the track only. I don't drive on the street with it. I have a restrictive JDM ITR cat.
Also I am keeping the stock cams for now, because I want to try and extract as much power from them....
