Getting a replacement key

My brother has a 1992-95 Civic that when he purchased required two different keys; one to open the door and one to start the car. I believe the original owner of the car, had a problem with the ignition key cylinder and replaced it for one out of a different Civic. I know that the door lock is the original for the car so I can get a replacement key made for it using the VIN. But how do I go about finding out how to get a replacement from Honda with the one from the ignition cylinder? The key has been lost and now we need another one, so how can I go about getting a replacement key for the ignition?
Maybe take it to a locksmith. Maybe if you the ignition to them they will be able to fabricate one for you. I need to get my lock cylinder rebuilt, and the dealer said that they don't do that, so I doubt they deal with the ignition. Good luck.

haha. i would think there would be a code on ur ignition somewhere so you can get the key? maybe some kind of serial number located somewhere? anyways u should went to lowes or some hardware store and made 2930482480234 copies of them. its only like $2.75 per key!
Why not just ask your buddy who is a mech and has alot of civic parts cars just laying around who is also going to the junkyard this week and grab all the locks off one car and replace them all for free? You could do that or get on HT and ask dumb questions.

I'm glad you asked that... well, my mechanic buddy, he's an a-- really. Actually, it won't do me too much good because it would be my brother replacing it and not me. Not certain if he would be able to do it or not. I'm sure he could but he may not want to go through the trouble of it. I'm trying to keep him from wasting the money to have a locksmith do it.
Any verification though on the question about the ignition key, possibly a serial?

I had this same issue, except I didnt lose the key. But one key for the door and one for the ignition. I did not like this so I bought a kit where it had I think 3 sets, 2 for the doors and one for the ignition. It was around $75 I think. Or you could take out the key cylinder and rebuild it to what the doors are?

Now that you say, this is a good idea. I think it would be easier rebuilding the lock cylinders, but I guess this isn't an option. I would try this if you can't find anything else to do.

I worked for Honda for almost 5 years and have never heard of anyway to replace a lost key if the ignition switch is not orig. Locksmith or new ign switch is really your only options..
