Amplifier Power Protection Fault
Alright, I have a Hifonics Zeus ZX4400 4 channel amp, 2x55 for the fronts and 220x1 for the sub, It has worked for well over a year pretty good, although it cuts out to soon when cranking it up sometimes on hard bass hits...
But for some reason the amp has been cutting off when I turn on the CD player, I can see the power fault LED light up then go out, and it remains off.. Before that I check all of my connections, all of my fuses, everything checked out OK.. Then I turn the car on the next morning and it powers right up.. So I think everything is good, then later that night it just stops working again!
I am kinda stumped.. It happened after I went to the 1/8 mile dragstrip Friday night.. I took the sub out and left it at home, and it stopped working before I even put the sub back in... and YES i made sure the sub wires didn't touch each other, I used electrical tape.
Any ideas?

Like I said, some amps have to have a load on them or they can be damaged, in this case it sounds like the the "fault protection circuit" may have been damaged.
What do you have for sub/subs, [size and impedance, number of VC and speakers]?
There are other things that will shut down an amp, poor power, [power cable too small, bad connections, improper grounding defective main power cable fuse] low impedance, [most amps that you bridge 2 ch to mono are not stable below 4 ohms]

I have 1 12" Shiva, 2 8 ohm VC, wired at 4 ohms, 6.5" Image Dynamics CTX6's 4 ohms..
I have never had a problem before, but I guess the amp is damaged.. It was a shitty amp anyways
What would you recommend for a good amp for the money these days, I have been out of the game for a few years now..

There are a few good ones out there even some very good ones and a lot of realy crappy ones, I like Alpine or JL Audio, the JLs will give you one hell of a bang for your $$, [not cheap] but a lot of bang. http://www.jlaudio.com http://www.alpine.com
