whats up wit the sub?
alright so last night the sub was working fine and today it wont work. it had power but it wasnt sending anything to the sub. the power then went off and i cant get it to turn back on. i dont think the amp blew but the ground came disconnected for like 2 seconds and i put it back on. the power to the amp was off while that happen but i dont know. im lost on what i should be checkin for. any suggestions?
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by hookedonvtec »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">alright so last night the sub was working fine and today it wont work. it had power but it wasnt sending anything to the sub. the power then went off and i cant get it to turn back on. i dont think the amp blew but the ground came disconnected for like 2 seconds and i put it back on. the power to the amp was off while that happen but i dont know. im lost on what i should be checkin for. any suggestions?</TD></TR></TABLE> Check the sub, disconnect it from the amp, and check with a multimeter, if you don't have one, just use a batt., [9v works best] just touch the pos. and neg. of the batt. to the pos. and neg. of the sub, it will "pop", this does not mean the sub is good, only that there is continuity and it should make sound, if this is so, then the problem may be in the amp or HU, one thing I would look at is the sig. input on the amp or sig. output on the HU, mainly the sig. grounds, if an amp has the power wire hooked up and the groung is disconnected, even for a sec., the amp will "try" to get its groung through the sig. ground, and its tot near big enough and the tracer on the circuit board will blow like a fuse, it may happen in the amp or the HU, depends on the thickness of the tracers in the amp and the HU.
