Have anyone sent a crank to Castillo's Crankshaft Specialty recently? I tried calling them in the afternoon a few times with the answer machine full. I wanted to send a crank to fix a rod journal.
Anyone have good or bad results from them?
Is there another place that can recondition a crank?
Thanks

okay so your saying they are good? like their work is awesome?

I dealt with Castillo's before. Years ago...like three years ago to get a custom job done on a D-series crankshaft. Actually...I dealt with them twice on the same crankshaft. They do amazing work. By no means are they cheap though. Depending upon the work they need to do, how much work they have going, and who the work is being done for, affects their time table a lot. If I ever decide to do any crazy custom work on my current motor, I would definately go back to them. They are worth the wait.
As for their answering machine getting full...deal with it. It's one of the drawbacks when dealing with a shop that good. There comes a point when they are so backed up with work, they just say "****-it" to the phone calls because it causes work to be backed up even more.

Castillo's been doing my vw cranks the last few years.......excellent work.
ps...try calling them earlier in the day....like between 8am to 10am. They start work there kinda early and typically don't answer phones after 12:00pm.

anybody have a phone number to get ahold of them? im looking for it on google, but coming up empty handed. To those of you that had your crank ground; was this on a honda crank? i was under the impression that was frowned upon. TIA
Many pro teams and I use Lopez Crankshafts, with much success. They have these signature radius contours that lend significantly to journal strength.
Feel free to call them at 562-789-6078, and tell them that Bisi sent you!
