Anyone own the pioneer DEH-P860MP
The settings on this thing are a little more advanced than the pioneer deck I replaced.
Anywhere I can read up on what all these eq settings actually mean?
I have my speakers running off and amp and also have a sub. So I'd like to cut most of the lows from the interior speakers. This deck has a 13 band eq...and its not the same as setting my older pioneer deck

Here is the manual for it if it helps. http://www.pioneerelectronics....P.pdf

I am an installer with over 30 years experience, 2 years ago I had a chance to pick up one of Alpines better HUs for next to nothing so I got it and installed it into my 94 teg LS, this is a full load HU CDA-7893, I am still playing with all the sound control features of this HU. So you could call me a "noob" also.
The best advice I can give you is spend time in your car, with your favorite tunes and the owners manual and play around with the controls, find out what they do, not just "what they do" according to the manual, but what actual effect it has on the sound as you hear it, and how combinations of controls effect sound. One of the problems I see in my shop is, a week or so after we install a system/HU, the customer comes back and complains that the SQ is not as good as it was and they can't seem to get it back to the way it sounded when they first got it, and in most cases we find it is just "over adjusted" too many control features improperly adjusted, and in most cases only by a little bit, and because the customer didn't quite understand what effect any one feature had on the sound, it was very hard for them to know what to do to "fix" it, eg. a common problem is the loudness control, [even on a entry level HU] more then a few times I have had customers come in and complain that, "it sounds ok at low volume but as soon as I turn it up a little it sounds like crap", only to find out the they are leaving the loudness control on all the time, and their question is, why if it sounds so good at low volume does it not sound as good at higher volumes, the simple answer is they just don't completely understand what a loudness controls effect is on sound along with other control features, in this case volume.
Now take that HU that has volume, bass, treble, fade and loudness and replace it with a HU like you have and you multiply the problem many fold, and once you get it "out of wack" it can be hard to get it back to "normal" if you don't understand what each control feature does especially when in relation to and along with other control features.
Hint.... to "unwack" the HU, disconnect power so HU resets to factory default.

Thanks for the info
Yeah I've actually had to look up terms like slope and phase. Even the high pass filters on this deck are more advanced than the old deck I had.
I think with this deck I am really going to need a day where I can just sit down andadjust things one step at a time.

Try these settings....I seem to have customers happy when they have pioneer decks set like so...
First 3 band EQ
Low = 0 to 1 if you have subs, 1 to 2 without.
Mid = 3 to 4
High = 3 to 5
Bass/Treble Frequencies
Bass = 63
Treble = 10K
Loud Function = Turn ON - Set on LOW
HPF = OFF!
SLA = 0
Second Parametric EQ settings (Will edit and post after test)
<U>-Open up all freq.bands to 2W-</U>
First Bar set =
Second Bar Set =
Third Bar Set =
Fourth Bar Set =

Thanks for trying to help....
but my old pioneer deck had settings like that.....the choices on the 860MP are more advanced. Like the low mid high is now replaced with a 13 band eq where you set each band one at a time
It's decent at the moment...but right now the old deck sounded much better compared to this new one.

You're right, and wrong at the same time. They just incorporated it differently into the deck. Here's how you do it...
Follow the same settings mentioned as far as the first 3 EQ parameters. Meaning, set Low to 0 or +1, Mids to +2 or +3 and Highs to +3 or+ 4
Then turn the **** and select LOW, go to the next menu by clicking RIGHT, then open up the frequency to 2W, and set it at 80hz.
Then Click the **** to the left, select MID, then open the frequency to 1W, set it at...800hz I believe sounded decent...
Then off to HIGH, Open Freq. to 2W, set it at 10K
Loud Function = Turn ON - Set on LOW
HPF = OFF!
SLA = 0

This is about how I had my old P86 setup before I sold mine off to a friend of mine. Even if you dont like the particular sound output it produces, this should give you a decent base to start adjusting from.
Nice choice on the headunit, I love mine.
Why don't you just set up the auto-eq with the mic it comes with, works fine for me when I don't feel like messing by my-self. Also if you really want some great sound you can actually delay the speaker signals to your speakers so you, the driver gets the best sound, that is the Intial In function and such. There used to be a place on the net that had most cars already measured out, worst case get a buddy to help you measure out the distances and you can really get some good sound from that deck.

I used to rock a CDA-7894 for a while, now its in my buddies 95 Teg. Awesome head unit, I regret ever selling it, my CDA-9831 is no where near the deck that was.
