Default Do you need to have a adjustable cam gear when swapping d16y8 into obd1?

Hello, My question is of the following: Do you need to have a adjustable cam gear when swapping d16y8 into obd1? I Still havn't been able to get this running correctly, What it does, is that when i first start it, It hessitates for a second, then picks up a high idle fine, but when it starts to idle down eventually at like 700rpm, it just kinda dies, and stumble and then picks itself up, I have a d16y7 block on a d16y8 cylinder head, and a stock y8 cam gear, All set at TDC, But my car still won't seem to run correctly, Any insite would be helpfull, or if anyone was close to the berkshires in mass. Let me know and If you would be willing to look at my car, Thanks

you don't need an adjustable cam gear, i'd look for vacuum leaks.

Cam timing and ignition timing are totally different.

You dont need a cam gear but the timing will be off if you keep the stock obd2 dizzy. the stock timing on a d16y8 is 12* unlike most the honda motors which have 16* base timing. You will have to fully advance the dizzy on your motor just to get 11*. I then used uberdata to get the extra degreee to have the set 12* timing.

Get a timing light and see what timing you running exactly.

I just put the timing light on the car, It appears to be at idle the mark on the valve cover is lined up with the white TDC mark, but when i hold the throttle at say 5000rpm the mark is on the one farthest from the white mark

the problem is the ecu. the y8 and z6 have different timing. I think one is 12 btdc and the other is 16 btdc. the ecu your using is expecting it to be at one of those, while the motor needs the other.

you need to get that ecu chipped and programmed correctly for the y8 motor

I just had a thought. what about your dizzy? are you using an obd-2 dizzy hooked up to obd-1 wiring?

if you're using the y8 dizzy, you probably need to rewire it for odb-1
