proper way of tensioning timing belt
today I was browsing through my crx service manual and it says to tension the belt set the crank to TDC and then turn the crank such that the cam gear teeth move forward 3 teeth. Afterwards it says to LOOSEN the tensioner bolt and then retighten.
I thought that was a bit strange as I normally leave the tensioner loose and move the crank foward a bit and then retighten the tensioner when both sides of the belt are tight. My 92 civic service manual says the way I'm doing is proper.
So can anyone here tell me how it SHOULD be done?
Thanks

I do it this way as well.

just loosen the tensioner bolt..rotate the cams counterclockwise 3 teeth, and just retighten the tensioner bolt..its very simple..
unless ur head is milled...then the factory tension will not be tight enough..you would have to adjust it yourself..its not that big of a difference, just have to make it a little tighter
