Default Your exhaust preferences will help decide my muffler.

My wife and I are VERY picky about what our cars sound like as I am sure most Prelude owners are. We are the pinnicle of the FWD Hondas and cannot afford to sound shitty. I want something similar to an original Greddy EVO exhaust but cant find just the muffler and refuse to pay $500 for a cat-back just to get the muffler. I plan on having a shop bend some pipes for me.

So here is where you guys come in. I want serious technical responses referring to what size piping I should get, I forgot the stock size...2" right?.....and personal opinions on ANY muffler on the market. Please bear in mind I am not rich and do have to watch money. No tin can, no bees in a coffee can, I want low rumbly notes and F1 sounds at high RPM. I test drove an 02 S2000 with an Invidia Exhaust and HOLY **** it was fast. Sounded beastly at WOT above 5500...sounded just like an F1 car.

Thanks for your thoughts
Daniel and Mer

I LOVE my Thermal Classic on my 92. It might be a little too deep for you at lower speeds though. They offer a Stealth model too. Might want to check it out. At 4000 rpm it get kind of loud but sounds good.

I painted my canister flat black, only leaving the tip chrome. It looks nice.

though 2.5" is a good choice, if 2.25" saves you some money i'd go with that. It's enough flow for a lightly modified prelude, though if you jump into modding with both feet you'll outgrow that piping size fairly soon.

i think the key is to cram as much resonator in as possible to keep the note low and the sound reasonable. next, a chambered muffler might not flow as well but it'll definitely be quieter, but if you don't mind some sound a straight through magnaflow should be fine.

i have a 60mm HKS that has a great exhaust note. rumbly but not obnoxious, with an urgent whine in the upper RPM's. no exhaust tickets in exhaust ticket central (rowland heights) b/c you can control volume with throttle modulation.

Do you have any pictures of this? I've been thinking about doing the same thing to my Apexi WS, but I'm not sure how it would look.

well if you are getting the pips bent i would go with a hi-flow cat to a 2.25 or 2.5 into two resanators into a hayname muffler.

the hayname are awsome they sound like a crouch rocket in peak rpms

and eather a mugen or smsp header but that is just my two sence

Personally I would go with magnaflow, sounds great, they have a lot to choose from in terms of universal mufflers and if you check out some of their suppliers you can get a muffler for around a $100. Just my 2 cents though.

I got a universal magnaflow for my prelude, sounds nice, looks good too. not too loud, and it doesn't produce that whiny sound others do.

I'm in the same market, 2.5" custom exhaust but first I need to find a muffler. People say magnaflo is loud as S!*$, and now I hear other wise. I'm sure people have different opinions, but I need this thing to be QUIET!! I plan on running two 14" SS resonators.

Are there any other choices besides magnaflo for universal chambered (not straight through) 2.5" mufflers????

Yeah I could get an entire exhaust and through the pipes away but that seems kinda... stupid. I'm sure there are some not so damn loud mufflers out there, does anyone else make universals like magnaflo that anyone here has used??????

Mmmmmm Thermal R&D. I have the stealth cat-back on my car and I love it. I think they offer jsut mufflers too, including one with a dual-tip that looks close to stock, only shiny stainless steel.
