Default Acetone for gas milage?

http://www.lubedev.com/smartgas/faq.htm

so i stumbled into this faq yesterday, though being very biased made me wonder is it possible that its true? I googled acetone and found plenty of different articles about it so seems like its nothing too new.

I did find this article as well:
http://pesn.com/2005/03/25/6900071_Acura_Acetone/

which shows that it dropped the fuel milage in a honda engine... but is that just because too much was added or is this whole acetone thing just BS?

Regardless I may try it... only putting one ounce or 2 ounces to see if that makes any differences... so can find out for my self. thanks for your input guys = ]

Im not too worried about MPG. I get 34-37 already.

I just dont feel comfortable adding stuff to my gas. I just have a feeling it could be bad for something.

For example diesels that are made pre 1990 have rubber fuel lines and bio-diesel can degrade the seals over time.

Although if I get cheap safeway gas I don't get as good of milage as if I use Conoco gas. Go figure.

too many things to consider.

That may be because the gas is older. Last night my professor told me that the reason Wawa gas stations (east coast thing) have cheaper gas (usually .05-.10 cheaper than other places) is because they don't buy gasoline unless its 60 days old.

The safeway you go to may be doing the same thing.

Wow that interesting. I always wondered if Wawa did something different to the gas cuz it was always cheeper than other places. So the older the gas the worse gas mileage you get. No more Wawa gas for me.

I don't know, I haven't had any problems. The Wawa gas seems to last just as long as the Exon, Texaco, and BP gas that a buy.

Acetone shouldn't increase your gas mileage. It has less energy potential than octane, the main component of gasoline. Octane has 3 times the energy stored when combustion happens as compared to acetone. This is why a candle lasts so long because there are more hydrocarbons in the candle compared to gasoline. Gas also has more chemicals in there to help clean the car such as ethers and other detergents which ignite in the chamber. Acetone might help with knocking though. Just as race gas has methanol to help make sure all of the gas is consumed. Plus acetone is much more expensive than just adding some octane booster to your tank. Acetone will eat at your gaskets and rubber fuel lines faster. It is the best organic solvent (rubber is organic), just like water dissolves most other things. I'm only saying this becasue I am a chemist. Thanks.

Yes, try this in a smaller engine first, like your lawnmower or weed-whacker.

Acetone isn't being used as an octane booster. Its helping the atomization or evaporation when its sprayed from the injector. Or so the guy claims.

I tried 100% acetone 3 oz on one full tank and so far i'm impressed. I usually get shitty mileage, about 210 miles for full tank, driving conservatively with my shitty skunk2 p28 that's soon to be replaced.

Before I tried this, my engine runs really rich and I can sometimes smell the exhaust.

I noticed that my engine runs a lot smoother and when driving at a constant speed on the highway, my exhaust doesn't sound as loud as usual. I am running header, test pipe and full 2.5 cat back exhaust.

I gained about 80 miles with 3oz of acetone on a full tank. I don't smell any exhaust fumes anymore and I've since added it to my wifes suv and no problems whatsoever. I would recommend it but it's up to you to try it or not.
