to change it, do you really need to take out shocks and suspension? that's what my mech told me and he's trying to charge me 150. does this makes sense? he said its a lot of work.

thats rear crossmember.
its about 2 hours labor, max. but im no mechanic nor have any experience as a professional mechanic.
you dont need to take off the suspension except the lower control arms and tie rod ends and swaybar. then remove the steering column u joint. unbolt and drop it.

this really makes sense now. i can understand that he try to make a little extra. (can't take it personal) but taking the little extra time to research really does pay off. thanx everyone for the response.
i agree, im not citicizing mechanics for charging for labor. they have to put food on their table and pay for their kids braces. but i dont care to pay for that, when my time is free. if perhaps i have no time of my own, or i was like some high priced lawyer who's time really is money, then sure, its cheaper to pay someone who knows how to do it and can get it done for cheaper than what my own time away from work or even relaxation time is worth to me.
anyway, i should warn you that if you decide to do this yourself, its going to take you MUCH MORE than 2 hours of work, since it seems like its your first time doing anything like this. but hey, if you got the time, you should try and then next time, you can do it quicker.

no i'm not gonna work on it myself, but i'm going to find someone who can do it cheaper than 150.
