Ever since I Installed my JRSC my Throttle Body whistles at a very annoying high pitched noice at around 1/4 peddle. If I lossen the brass screw on the TB about a full turn the whistling goes away, but then my idle gets all jacked, my CEL comes on, saying my IACV is failing. Has anyone has this problem and know how to fix it? The whistling only occurs when I push the peddle down slightly, so in traffic it sucks.

haha...i had the same problem. My throttle body gasket was on upside down. I was so concerned w/ getting the SC to run right I ignored all the other things. It could either be that, or else you need a new tb gasket.

 

I will check it out.. How could adjusting the brass screw affect it then?

 

You are hearing the air rush past the throttle plate at 1/4 throttle. This is only cured with a smaller tb and/or stock (restricted) air intake. Turning the idle screw (brass screw) will only affect the idle. I does make the intake a little bit more quiet, but as you noticed messes up the idle speed. The only thing you can do is either get used to it or put on a stock air box.

Are you sure its the throttle body? I installed the JSRC on my d16y8, and my setup "whistles" too anywhere from 18-25% throttle. I attributed it to the bypass valve that JR developed, like when it's closing to create boost whenever there's a certain amount of vacuum present. I say that because the whistling sound is present whenever I'm hovering around 0 vacuum/boost on my gauge, hence the bypass.

I dunno, maybe it's not the same thing you're talking about, but I personally like the sound.

I'm not sure, besides taking it into your own hands to redesign the bypass valve. It has been done. But the air is rushing through a small area, so the shape of the valve is whats causing the sound.

Since when do aftermarket throttle bodies whistle? It's not the tb.

 

the problem is the air rushing through the idle air control valve in the intake, take off your intake pipe and put your finger over the top hole and the engine dies but the sound immediately goes away. If it bothers you that much, jb-weld some obstruction in front of the idle air hole might work.

the sound isnt always there though. if there's a whistling sound all the time then its apparently not the same one.

My stock Z6 intake manny and short ram intake make a weird honing noise like a vacuum. Not sure why but it's only at idle.

 

Short rams tend to be very loud. Any sound it makes is directly related to its length and shape, so the air rushing in at idle could be at just the right speed to create a resonating effect inside the intake that you can hear. Either that or it's simply drowned out by other noise when not at idle.
