Default greasing the axles

when you guys install new axles, do you grease up the splined ends or the transaxle openings or at the half shaft joint?

i already put the drivers side axle and suspension together and then i got stuck on the passenger axle. i can't pop the splined side in past the spring clip. so i went to the haynes manual and see that it mentions greasing up these areas upon reinstallation.

i dont recall ever doing that before, but then again, i'm no expert. is this necessary? do you guys do this?

thanks!

I usually put a light coat of anti-sieze on the ends.
