Default 93 Civic VX hatch

My friend has a 93 Civic VX hatch and he just blew his motor. It is a 90 horse d15 sumthin motor with vtec. I just have a couple questions. He wants to put in a d16z6 motor, tranny, ecu since its got 125 hp. Will it be a direct bolt in using the stock d15 mounts, axles, and wiring harness? It already has the wiring for vtec so i dont think any wires would have to be changed would they? Would the d16z6 ecu be a direct plug in, or would we have to change some wires around? And also, would the stock vx d15 vtec tranny and clutch bolt up to the d16z6 motor? Thanks.

bolts right in just like hes old motor the only problem he is going to have is w/the o2 sensor since the vx is a 5 wire and the z6 is a 4 wire

i agree, did the same swap when I blew mine, and dont forget to get the p28 ECU, you can even use the VX tranny if you're looking to save gas too, if not stay with the Si tranny

sweet, thanks for the info and help. And about the o2 sensor, can we use the stock vx sensor or the d16z6 sensor, or what can be done to remedy this? He still wants to be able to pass emissions.

The motor will bolt right in.

You need to use the z6 o2 sensor.

Follow my O2 sensor wiring instructions here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=644434

So I only have to switch the o2 sensor wire then right, i dont need to mess with the knock sensor wire or any wires on the ecu harness because of the p28?

Also, can the stock vx engine harness be used with the d16z6? If so, does it need any modification? Or do i have to use the d16z6 engine harness?

Thanks

Are the clutch and flywheel the same on the d15z1 and d16z6? Are they interchangeable? Thanks.

my friend bought a 95 d16z6 engine from a wrecking yard, it came off an auto car, but we will just swap on his d15 flywheel. But i noticed that it says P08 on the engine instead of P28. I thought all the d16z6's used the P28???

P28 is the ECU code, p08 is the engine code.

Uhh... Thats for a GSR motor in a vx using the GSR engine harness, not the vx engine harness...

My friend and I are putting a d16z6 motor in his vx using the vx harness, so i need to know what to do with the o2 sensor wires since the stock vx motor uses the 5 wire sensor and the z6 is 4 wire. Thanks.

the easiest and cleanest way to fix the 02 is to use the engine harness from the z6... you only have to switch one wire around from one plug to another plug and thats it... no running wires to the ecu and whatnot

I was looking at the throttle position sensor on the z6 and the vx motors and i noticed that they are not held on with bolts but they are held on by something resembling rivets. The TPS on the z6 is broken so i was going to swap them but i cant figure out how to get it off the throttle body. Does anyone know?

Also i was comparing the 2 motors and i noticed that the vx motor has the EGR right on the intake manifold like an h22, but on the z6 its not in that place and i dont know where it is or even if it has one, if it has one where is it? I need to know so i can plug it in using the vx harness egr plug. Thanks.

Easiest way to take off the TPS is to dremel it off and you can reuse it with some screws forgot all the technical specs but guess and check will work. Oh and the EGR is a waste of space on the motor plus the z6 doesn't come with it , so need to worry about it, just zip tie the plug off somewhere

As for the wires I used the: YLW/BLK, WHT, GRN/WHT, & ORG/BLU wires. If someone thinks I did this wrong please let me know, I've had it like this for about 18 months without throwing any codes and I still get killer gas milage so it must be working right but heres a pic

Are you sure? Cause I know my Z6 came with one and so have all the other Z6's I have ever rebuilt or worked on here in Canada. The EGR is a must for emission purpose so be careful about removing it and having to go through emission tests cause you could fail. Especially if the ECU is throwing an egr code. .5V shut and 4.5V to 5V fully open for the TPS. Also make sure the voltage steadily increases and doesn't "jump" or erratically rise.

Canada and US are different if im not mistaken, I'd check my HELMS but its a PDF and i'm in no mood to rifle through it, but I never threw a EGR code when I did my VX to Z6 swap, only o2 sensor till I fixed that...and emissions, , proper dyno time and turbo cars with not cats still pass

so for the 4 wires on the o2 sensor. Do i have to run new wires to the ecu or do i just splice those wires from the vx harness onto the plug for the z6 o2?
