Default 2002 Civic EX Starting Problem

My 2002 Civic EX has 66,000 miles on it and has always run perfectly. Recently however, it will occasionally turn over endlessly without starting, then will start and run perfectly on a subsequent try. Starts after that will be fine then all of a sudden it will crank and crank without starting again, but will start right away on a subsequent try. Semms to happen more when it is already warmed up, but may not be a factor. I am thinking crank sensor? Any help would be appreciated....espcially if this is a common problem. Thanks

If it was the plugs I would expect it wouldn't be an intermittent problem. When it does start it starts right up the second the key is turned and runs perfectly without a hiccup. Anyone agree with the plug theory? Doesn't seem to jive with me.

I've had a 2002 civic ex for 22,000 miles now and i had the same problem. I bought it with 40k and now have 62k. I also had a similar problem when starting up.

Your problem may be much more complicated, but when trying to find out whtas the matter with any car, i like to start small. Just a suggestion: clean the battery heads or even just change the battery. It turned out that my battery was messed up and a simple 50 bucks later i was runnin fine.

when it crank over and over, does the green key flash in the dash... thats the immobiliser.... be sure not to have steel close to the key when you start it... it will change the data of the chip inside the key...

my girls 01 civic with like 45k on it sometimes cranks a while before it starts, never really looked into it. It has returnless fuel system so sometimes the fuel rail my not get primed right away, try turning the key lon and leave it for a second and let it prime, then try to turn it on. Its a common problem with returnless fuel systems.
