Default vtec controller for 2004 civic ex

I am new to vtec. I know the 04 ex has a d17a2 engine with a sohc vtec. would a vtec controller affect its performance positively? if so, how? How does it work really, and how would i control it?

do a search really. I think its safe to assume that this would be your first mod. Dont waste your money on this. Especially since you dont know what it does.

A VAFC2 would give you some gains, mostly from the tuning of the A/F Ratio as most cars run somewhat rich from the factory, Although if you don't have any other mods on the car I would suggest some basic bolt ons first.

im in the same boat as you wako. im thinking about that crower stage 2 cam, open it up with a header and VAFC2 to change the vtec, shooting for 8000 rpms, then i will finish all the bolt ons, 140+hp hopefully. i want to spend my money on rpms first though. the VAFC2 would be a waste with out a cam.

with so many bolt ons do you think you could reach 140+ whp in an ex? if so, what bolt ons would it be?

I dont think your going to hit 140 wheel with a cam and bolt ons......When i did my vtec head swap on my d17, i had header, catback with no cat, intake and a minor street tune and i put down 115 whp and 112 torque. WIht a stage 2 cam and tune your looking at maybe 125 whp max....also remember for stage 2 cam your going to need the springs and retainers or you eat your stock ones right up reving up to 8000 if thats what you wanna do
