i'm getting a screech. like when you run your nails on the chalkboard whenever i start my car. weird... it happens right when it turns over for 1 second and stops. anybody?

it's not constant...only when i start the car.

 

have some one else start the car and you hear where its coming from. btw ive driven cars that only squeek when started and it was the belts. just give them a good quick check.

 

It's probably your belts. I finally replaced all my belts and the new ones keep freakin' doing it, both myself and a local dealership are a little mystified since they're neither over- nor under-tightened. Exactly as you describe, they squeak for a second, get up to speed, then it's fine.

Getting a friend to start the car when you've got your head under the hood is about the only way you're going to diagnose if it's the belts or something else.

 

From the description above, I would say check your belts.
