Default Theives didn't do their homework on this one!!!

I've been reading about all these Type R's getting jacked and what not and I thought I might share this little story to kinda lighten up the mood.

There is a kid who lives in a nearby city with a 99 GSR with Type R stickers and everything. He also had a red valve cover but the block on the car said B18C1.
He used to tell everybody that he had a Type R and told me the same thing. I used to work at an Acura dealership so I know what a Type R has and doesn't have. Newayz he worked at the local mall and I went there one day to chill. I saw his car in the parking lot and noticed that he had put a bra on the front. It didn't say Type R on the bra so I began to question him. He claimed that when he tried to purchase a Type R bra that Acura didn't make one! I said it won't fit your car because you don't have a chin spoiler!!! He then informs me that the dealership told him it was $1200 extra for the chin spoiler and painted side skirts. I told him you got ripped off. He said he purchased it from the dealer like it was. The appearance of the car was like this: He had 98-01 GSR wheels with four lugs, Sunroof, 8100 RPM redline, door moldings, huge three peice spoiler, and leather interior.

Well he was at work one day and his car got stolen from the mall parking lot!!!
Apparantly the thieves thought it was a Type R. It still sux that the kids car got jacked but he was asking for it trying to imitate a Type R. They found the car stripped about two weeks later and he ended up getting a brand new RSX S with full OEM kit and AEM CAI and some lowering srpings!

I don't think the theives stole his car because they thought it was an ITR. They stole it because they wanted some good Honda/Acura parts. Or maybe they just wanted to joyride. To be honest with you I have no idea why they stole his car but I can almost bet those particular thieves do not steal ITRs exclusively.

I am not sure if some of you are aware of this but thieves also target GS-Rs as well as just about every other car out there. GS-Rs as well as LS/GS/RS Integras have some valuable parts also.

ITRs are great cars (I like mine a lot) and it sucks that they are a target for car thieves. But, I don't think the kid was "asking for it" when he put all that ITR stuff on his Integra.

They may not steal ITR's exclusively, but could've seen it and thought it was one. If that is the case wouldn't you say he was asking for it!

unless they are trying to scam the insurance company....i don't think anyone deserves to get their car stolen unless they are a thief themselves(the car owner)

Lip: Do you know where Browns Mills is? Next to Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force base? I used to live there and Burlington Twnshp. is real close to there. I used to go to Burlington Center with my Grandma all the time! I haven't been back in a while, but last time I was back it had changed a whole lot! Cool to see someone who lives close to where I used to live.

Yeah, even though he played his car out for what it wasn't, it still sucks real bad to have your car stolen. I feel bad for him.

You could have a Porsche or a Civic.....either way, if it's stolen, it sucks. Anywho, like Vegeta said, thieves know cars well. If you can tell what it is, they can tell too. They're pros at this stuff......I'll be damned if I can get a motor out in one night with all my friends helping me! Heh.

Yep, you're right! They stole it cause the thieves, who target Hondas/Acuras to use the parts on their cars or to sell the parts thought it was a type-r because of a sticker! Damn, you're good!

Anybody stealing an integra to strip it knows EXACTLY what the car is before hand, stickers or no stickers.

I'd take a GSR motor, hell I had one from Kenji, legit of course. GSRs are still worth a lot of money to steal, but my feeling is if ain't legit

Makes me kinda want to get a Type-R and do a D-series swap in it. Paint on the valve cover in big yellow letters "HA HA!"

Sick GS Teg, you must have got fired for being dumb. Theives dont think its a type r just because it has stickers.. if that was the case, then all the civics with "civic type r" badges would be stolen

and why does another persons loss "lighten up the mood"
type r or not.. its still a loss, grow up

I don't like when people claim to have an R when they don't.

Yeah no kidding. You see them all over the place. Green 4dr type r's....No one deserves to get their car stolen. At least the kid got something better.

Type R or GSR?

Either one is worth about 8k in easy sales to a thief in the motor/interior/suspension/wheels alone. Little let all the other little stuff in the interior, and none of it is traceable other than the motor. So a theif can make 8-10k in one night with a little risk ? Sounds like a profitable business to me.

Considering it was a 99 GSR, it still has the imobolizer. The thieves obviously still had to bypass this. This in turn makes whoever stole to have to of known what they were doing. So yes the kid had a couple R stickers. Yes his car got stolen, not because it was a ITR, but because it was a GSR. Lots of sellable parts on a GSR. Most thieves are not as stupid as you would think. They usually know more about Hondas/Acuras then most people on this board.

As a side note to all of you ITR owners that hate people imitating that their cars are ITR's. Haven't you ever heard that imitation is the biggest form of flattery? Well it is true.

Point is, kid got his GSR stolen. That sucks for him cuz GSR's are still very nice cars.

Agree with your post. Except that the immobilizer wasn't put into G3 Integras until 2000.
