built b16a problem!! plz look
ok tonite i was driving home and i noticed my apexi turbo timer was reading out LOW a/f ratio, it was like 11.3? and would bounce around to 12..then 11..then mostly 13.4.. Usually, its at a constant 14.3-14.7.. so by then i knew something was wrong. i KNOW this isnt a wideband.. but usually when numbers go down and up..and all over.. something goes wrong. i also noticed that my idle was at 1000rpm. and usually its around 700ish.. anyways on my way when ever i shifted gears i could hear my exhaust POP... not really loud.. but it has gone loud before.. and then i smelt this farty scent..and so did my gf..and belive me it wasnt any of us.. it was really weird.. and then sometimes when im accelerating it feels as if no fuel is going into the motor..and i would feel a "free roll" kinda feeling but im still pressing the accelerator.. so finally i decided to pull over.. and just shut the car off and wait for a lil bit. i get the car running and it seems to still pop when i shift but it doesnt lagg. and my a/f reading was like 12.something most of the time.. wich wasnt great.. but it was going...
this has happend before.. but all in a shorter perioud.. and as i turned in a gas station my engine actually stopped...i was freaked but i waited a while then everything went back to normal...
im not sure if anyone had this problem before.. but its weird...
ok iv got a jdm b16a with:
JE 12:1 comp pistion
Type R cams
Type R valves
Crower Titan valve springs and retainers
port and polish
blue print and balanced
UR crank pully
Ngk blue spark plug wires
custom cold air intake
stright pipe
Type R B pipe
Spoon fly wheel
OBD1 ECU
and this is all running untuned.... i KNOW i KNOW... but im gunna getta vafc2 and a aem wideband o2 ina few days for now..just to make my motor run smoother.. most of the time it runs really strong.. but iv encouvtered this problem 2wice so far.. and it freakin me out!! if anyone knows wuts up..plz let me know
ohh also my crank pulley was SQUEEELING like a b!tch! i gotta tighten my belt or get a new one.. cuz it was soooo bad tonite too.. i felt after it was done squeeling my motor picks up better? think i should getta new belt? ahh soo many problems

12-1 compression+ no tuning= the problems your having. Im so sick of seeing att the threads where people dump tons of money into a motor, try and run it on the stock ecu then post why they dont understand that their car is running like ****.

well i didnt build this motor. .i bought the car as is. and he didnt tune it. and yeah the ppl that dropped the motor in told me that it needs to be really tuned. i just havnt got the chance to cuz work/school..and money lol. and sorry if i seem like the kind of person to dump money in my motor and dosnt kno **** about it. but thats why im asking so i can learn. and i only bought the car cuz i gotta good deal on it. but thanks for the replies. i really appreciate it! i guess its time to tune sooon.
im not sure if the ecu is stock or not. he might of chipped it with something. cuz my redlines not the stock 8200 of the b16a. its 8500?and also the governor?(sp) is disabled. well thanx again! it really helps!

I would also retard the base timing to almost full retarded just to help in the detonation aspect of it...
Do you have any fault codes? (CEL on?)
Remove your spark plugs to see how they look...
What kinda fart smell is it? Rotten eggs smell like sulfar?
Sounds like maybe your tps sensor may be going out the way you describe the "free roll" when your pressing the accelerator.
Examine your belt, if it has any cracks or frays, replace it. If not, tighten it up a bit and spray it with brake cleaner to remove any contaminants,oils, dirt...

You have a cat right? That could be the fart smell. I heard when u smell that smell, it's unburnt fuel in your car burning the particles inside it. It can cause the cat to go bad so get it tuned.

-and yeah i replaced my freakin belt and it STILL makes noise..its annoying i gotta unorthadox racing pulley. anyone kno the specs of belt for it?cuz the one i got may be a bit bit?
