Noob question - engine type?
I recently aquired a 2000 Integra with a salvage title. I am unsure if the mechanic who sold it to me kept it stock. How can I tell what type of engine is in there?
Also, I plan on swapping out in the near future, would the "B" engines b e the best way to go?
Thanks for reading.

All US integras have "B" engines. if you have a GSR, you will have a b18c1 engine and it will be stamped on the engine block on the left side right where the tranny bolts up - about six inches below the distributor. Also, your valve cover will be black and say "DOHC VTEC" on the top.
I doubt you have a type R, but it would be stamped b18c5. and have a red valve cover and say "DOHC VTEC" on the top.
Both the b18c1 & b18c5 are VTEC motors that make 170 & 195 HP respectively.
More then likely you have a 142 HP 1.8L non-VTEC motor, the B18b1...agian, check the stamp. You will have a black valve cover that simply says Honda Motor Co.
The fastest way to tell is to see what the highest number on your tach is...if it's an "8" you have an B18B1, but if your tach goes to 10, well then you have VTEC.
Yet another way to tell is to look at your vin number, it should start out something like JH4DC (assuming it's a 2dr) - well take note the letter after the "DC" - if it's a 4, as in DC4 - you have the b18b1...if it's a 2, DC2 - you have a VTEC motor.
