Can it be done?
I have a 00 Prelude base auto (yes I know, but it's all I could find) with 36k miles on it. All that I have done to it mechanically is add an AEM v2 and a Greddy evo exhaust. I have decided to go with a turbo kit for some more power. I am looking to get 265-275 whp. I do not want to get into the motor at this point (read: stock).
Now here comes the real kicker. My budget is set at 4k on the nuts. Not because I can't afford more but because I can't justify more than that. If it is going to take more than that I will scrap the project and buy another tt z car. I was looking at the revhard or greddy kit (I feel the greddy would be tough to get there). with an intercooler and boost controller. I am more concerned with reliability than power however so I will sacrifice peak hp numbers for a motor than can be run harder without fear of scattering parts all over (excluding the auto, lol). I could also use some help for finding a reputable tuner. I live in the western part of MT and there are no tuners here at all. If anyone knows of any good ones in the Central/Eastern WA or Central/Eastern MT area I would be greatful.
TIA

Is it the fact that a turbo kit can't be done for 4k or I can't get 265 hp for 4k. If the latter how much could I expect? I would probably be happy with somewhere in the neighborhood of 240-250 as the Prelude is a fairly light car for what it is. 400 lb's lighter than my old z. As for the tranny, it is covered under an extended warr, and I'm the finance manager at a dealership so I could pull some strings and get it rebuilt with much stronger internals without costing me a whole lot out of pocket.
you can definatly build a turbo kit for thes then 4k easy. especially if you piece it together your self. and if you can tune it well you can get good reliable horsepower if you keep the pressure low. (stock)
But the problem is the tranny. No one in these forums trusts them at all in the 5th gen. and everything is good being able to pull strings and everything but the quesion is do they actually make any stonger parts for this particular tranny. I would do some research about the tranny and strength. maybe look for a better shift kit and see if they have upgraded parts.

Thank you. I will have to do some researching into that. I know a couple guys on the forums running auto's with about 225-250 but who knows how long that will last. Is there anyone out there running a boosted auto that can speak up?
