Need help, Bike will crank but not start!!
Ok, this is for my 01 f4i. I just purchased this to be my track bike not too long ago. Anyway, it needs some work, it's been through a minor accident and has bent forks that need to be replaced along w/ some cosmetic stuff. When I purchased the bike from the guy it started up and ran just fine. So I truck the bike home, park it in the garage and leave it there for a day or two. The other day I work on it a bit, remove the gauge cluster and head lights, then I try and start it up just to check up on her. The bike would just crank over but the motor will not start up. I freak out a bit, then i notice the bike has no gas, I don't exactly know how much it has in it, but when i peaked into the tank w/ a flash light I see absolutely nothing. So I fill her up w/ about a gallon then try to crank her up and I get the same result. I get really pissed and cranked it till the battery dies. Then I switch out the battery from my 600rr and put it in the f4i and crank it a couple of times and same result, engine does not start. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I think its something fuel related, but I am clueless right now. Any thoughts would really help. Thanks

I didn't know you can turn it off, does the fuel shut off when it runs out of gas? I have a fuel injected bike, would that matter?

do you hear the fuel pump prime when the key or cutoff switch are turned on?
you should hear a high pitched whine.
if not check all the fuses, if none are bad you may have a bad pump. sometimes fuel pumps burn out if you run the tank empty as the pump relies on the fuel in the tank for cooling.
you may also try to hard wire the fuel pump.
just remove your seat or maybe gas tank also to get to the electrical connector below. then just hook it up to the battery keeping the polarity in mind.
if the pump runs this way you know it is an issue somewhere else, and NOT the pump.
good luck!

I dunno about F4i's,but my 600RR has a Bank Angle Sensor (BAS) that is attached to the upper cowl and if you unplug the headlights and remove the upper cowl, the bike won't start. The purpose of the BAS is so that if you wipe out and fall off the bike, the bike will shut off and not spill fuel all over or start on fire..Make sure you have a BAS and see that it's plugged in.That,I'm willing to bet,is your problem.

does anyone know if the 04'+ gsx-rs have this sensor also? i have a friend who's selling a wrecked one for cheap because it won't start for unknown reasons.

Did you check the owners manual. I feel like an idiot now because in the honda's owners manual it gives you trouble shooting tips on when the bike doesn't start. One of the solutions was to check the BAS.
You might want to plug in your gauge cluster back in and make sure you didn't pull on the harnesses too hard because you have all your switches and wires running thru the gauge cluster. The headlamp wouldn't make a difference because it has 2 different plugs, so it doens't have nothing to do w/ it. But try that.
