It's most likely a torn/worn shifter "bushing." lightningmotorsports.com sells them for a good price and free shipping for HT members. Either prothane or energy suspension are the two brands to look for.

Just get under the center of the car and check where the linkage/shifter mount to the both through the bushing. I bet that's it!!!

What motor is in your car?, if its a b series motor then you'll have to cut and shorten the shift linkage and reweld it.

its either the bushings (which are probably original and super soft) or the joint on the gear selector shaft (not the stabilizer shaft) is shot. u may have to cut to pin out and put a bolt and nut in there.

Check the end of the linkage where it attaches to the tranny (selector). Look for play in that. You may have to replace the bitch pin. I removed my linkage and put a small crimp on it with a vice (small crimp) so that it would fit on the selector tightly. That eliminated all of the slop.

(Dont crimp it unless you know what you are doing or are prepared to spend $150 on a new linkage)

Is that a stock shifter, cause that thing looks huge. As far as the boot I'd say junkyard or dealership.

If you grab the **** and try to twist it left and right does the shaft rotate if it does, it's the one bushing at the bottom of the shifter rod (not the stabilzer bushings).

Or the linkage that leads to the selector shaft either the pin is fucked or the hole in the linkage is messed up.

But I'm betting thats the bottom bushing in the shifter

im not even sure. cause when we put the sohc in, my other friend tried to put a short shifter from a b series linkage into the stock si linkage. but it was scrapping against the exaust so we took it out and he wasnt sure if the way he put the crx linkage back was right. ill take pictures of it later on today.

Im not sure how you could put a linkage on backwards.... the shifter itself might go on backwards but not the whole linkage.

Everything looks ok in your pics.

Def loose the bolt man...i bet there is some slop there. The spring pins ("bitch pins") will always hold pressure, keeping a solid connection between the linkage/tranny.
