Swap noob here: PROS & CONS of piecing together a B18C1
so i came across a gsr head and tranny for $1,000. so besides the block, what else will i need? and im guessing everything should come out to less than the regular price for a gsr swap ($3400) correct? are there any other issues i should know about? what are the pros and cons of getting my motor this way?
I just did a b18c swap in my 96 EK and the swap was about 4 grand after LSD, shipping, and all of the hoses and belts and stuff I had to replace on the motor. And I have spent another 2 grand on performance stuff too and suspension...
A head and tranny for a grand is a good buy, but I can almost bet that all the other parts are going to run about the same, if not more, than just buying a complete swap. There is a huge list of things you're going to need.
Bottom end
Clutch
Flywheel
Head Gasket
Mounts
Shiftlinkage
Wiring
Exhaust Manifold
Starter
Alternator
PS pump/ AC Compressor if needed
Timing Belt
And so on...
Those are a few things. Depending on how complete the head is, you might need even more. Just buy a complete swap and save yourself a huge headache.
