Ok i'll start off by saying I love my R 95% of the time, but there are those instances where i want a bit of quiet to be able to simply turn up the tunes and listen to some high quality music.
My question is do you guys think its possible to get a decent sounding system by putting in new speakers and a head unit, or will a lack of sound deadening make this task out of reach.
I have just installed some JL XR650 components and am running them off a Pioneer HU, and am considering upgrading to an eclipse head unit to get some better sq.
but I don't wanna add any sound deadening, so what do you think ? is it possible to get some decent SQ ?

good sound system is a must in my cars!! i just have mb quarts components and one 10" woofer with about 500 watts to it and it sounds great!!
couldnt have a car from now on without a good system its just not the same

lpine head unit, alpine V12 amps, alpine R separates, all speaker locations rewired with 14 gauge monster speaker wire, XM and the silencer in the T1R yields a kick *** audio experience on road trips...
I never use my stereo anymore. The rear speakers aren't there anymore, and the fronts took a dump at LRP last year when I blasted Crue's "kick start my heart" too many times each session and tried to make it loud enough to hear with a helmet on at WOT. Needless to say the remaining speakers gave out and just the tweeters work now.
Can't say I miss it much though. I've owned several police cars in the past with absolutely no stereos, not even crappy AM/FM radios, just flat panels on the dash.
Gives me lots of time to think.
I personally think it's almost a waste to spend big money on a loud system for an R since the sound can't just focus on clarity which is a big thing for me, but has to be pounding loud since theres so much other noise to contend with all the time. And forget if you have the rear seats folded down, or the hatch back halved or stripped altogether, it's just noisy.

Alpine head unit, Alpine Type R 12" sub, custom carpeted box, MTX amp, stock separates, monster cable wiring all around. Sounds awesome
Even the stock speakers sounds good when you geta decent head unit

Good tunes is a must. Though I'm not into how loud it can get, but the quality of the sound is what is important to me.
Eclipse 5444 head unit
Front: Infinity Kappa (top of the line) component set
Rear: Infinity Kappa (top of the line) component set
Sub: Infinity Bass Link (two 10"s housed in it's own encloser and built in amp. Very compact and light weight!)
Amp: Rockford Fosgate 4x100
No nav systems, flat panel tv's or PS2's....

YAY why not. i know stock ITR sound system sucks.
if you dont want to have a heavy *** sub in your trunk.
maybe u could try focal speakers with some amp?
they are kinda expensive but are supposed to be real nice

Do you mean the music of vtec is not enough for you? Well for me it's not but the stock radio/speakers work for me. I guess I had enough stereo when I spent over 5k in my GS-R and that was building custom boxes and doing the install myself. Don't think I'll ever go down that road again. I'd say though a decent head unit upgrade and some speakers should do you justice.

Ok well from all the postive comments, i think ill take on the task of upgrading the R's sound system.
ill take some pics of the upgrades and poste m up as I go.
I'm thinking a good HU some quality speakers to go with the JL's i just bought, and an amp to run em.
But one requirement will have to be no adding weight through sound deadening.

The Crue rocks *puts index and pinky fingers up and bangs head*

on those long drives, something with a bit more oomph is nice.... i tend to travel all over the place, so a better system comes in handy. when your traveling 800 miles averaging 80, with a decent system your fine, sound deadening doesn't matter unless your a hardcore audiophile
