Default hondata rom not staying secure/falling out of socket?

I have installed my socket on my p72, and the rom chip wont stay securely into the socket...

All the pins slide in freely, but im afraid it will fall out because how easy it pulls out. What can I do to keep it firly seated in the socket?

Then Whats the purpose of the socket to begin with?
How will they be able to tune it? dont they have to take the chip out to program it?

Logically wont tape be ok? I mean its makeing good contact its just not locking inplace because of the removeable socket

If someone seconds the tape idea ill do that, so my rom can be removed in the future

Spread out the pins so they're slightly wider than the socket. When inserting, line up one side of the chip and push on that side to get the other side to go in.

Or you could use a zero insertion force socket (ZIF)

You probably arent pushing the chip down in hard enough. I dont think I have ever come across a DIP or single wipe socket that couldnt hold the chip in.

Apply even pressure and push it down into that socket.

If that doesnt work, get a new socket...push that down into the old and solder a few spots to keep it in place.

Are you using any spacers? There's two types of spaces... the ones with the flat pins gets loost really easy.. the ones with the machined round pins stay put.
