Default how to tell which single cam tranny

i have a 93 cx hatch with a cx tranny and i was going to go to a friends house to pick up a tranny cause he has some single cam trannies laying around. He told me he had dx, vx and cx trannies but didn't know which was which i want the dx tranny cause i know the vx is same as cx. So what numbers or letters should i be looking for in the dx tranny so i don't end up with the same gear ratios.

I believe the Dx trannny will have P20 stamped into a bunch of small circles in circles around the houisin just look at where hte two housin side meet for circles that have a number on them.

I personally would go for a newer Ex tranny i just got finished runing my 2000 Ex with a 92-95 Dx tranny and i couldn't get out of second in the eighth mile, my suto ran faster, i atleast got into third gear.

good luck

if you look by the fill plug on the transmissions you'll see a circular indent with numbers and letter(s).

5th gens:
P20/A000 is for DX/CX/VX/
P20/B000 is for EX/Si

6th gens(it's either K4F or S40..i dont remember..):
K4F or S40/A000 is for DX/CX/LX/HX
K4F or S40/B000 is for EX

hope that helps! Oh and this page may be helpful! http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/tranny.html

Mista, your site doesnt have ratio's for 96 and up. Are they the same as 92-95?

slightly different, sometimes more confusing............

main differences, all had .702 5th, 1.909 instead of 1.900 second on the EX trannys............

DX HB had 3.722 FD, DX Coupe had standard 4.058 FD.

Someday I'll get the info on my new site, but my son has been lacking in doing the webpage for me, typical 16 yo!!!!!!!!

under 40, but have been working on cars for 25+ years.

Been lucky enough to speak with Gale Banks when I was in H.S. and John Lingerfelter about gearing. I've also chatted with Jamie Houseman on the phone and in person about Honda trannys. Likely spent $300 in phone bills, but the education is well worth it.

Motto my grandfather said..........."they day you stop learning, is the day you start dieing!"

Oh by all means im not. Just a shock to see old guys (sorry if that sounds mean) into what teenage guys are into. Most old guys i know are/were into muscle cars and not hondas, and they actually hate honda's. But its good to have them with honda's, like Earl that guy knows so much its insane. I got to talk to him once when i dropped a block off.

Muscle?

Does having a 86 Trans Am WS6 count and dream car is a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1?

Interesting stuff...

Any idea what these markings are?

Is there any way to tell which tranny it is by these markings? If not, why are they there?
