i am new and i dont know about much turbo!! need help here!
1. what does a turbo do?? does it give air to the engine or not?
2. what does an intercooler do?
3. so what if i put turbo on my civic would i take out the intake manifold and replace another pipe from intercooler to the engine?

1. yes, a turbocharger (to put it simply) crams more air into the engine. more air means more hp. the percentage gain depends on the psi and the size of the turbo
2. an intercooler cools the air

a turbo is a type of compressor that is driven, in this case, off of exhaust gas from your engine running. the exhaust gas spins an impeller as it tries to exit the car through the exhaust. this is the exhaust side of the turbo. that impeller is attached to a shaft that spins a compressor blade that compresses fresh air from the outside. this is called the compressor side of the turbo. the compressor side then sends the fresh, compressed air into ~hopefully~ an intercooler, where the compressed air is cooled as the outside air flows past. because the gas is compressed it gains heat energy because all the molecules of gas are being smashed closer and closer together. so what an intercooler does is allow that warmer compressed fresh air expand, which cools it, and the intercooler itself acts like a radiator, except that instead of putting water in the radiator, air gets put into it. on the other side of the intercooler, the fresh air is re-compressed by the air behind it pushing it into a smaller tube which then goes to the intake manifold and into the engine, to become exhaust gas to push the impeller to compress more fresh air.

turbos serve to reduce entropy of an engine system. they use the "wasted" energy of exhaust gas to compress fresh air to be forced into the engine.
the reason a turbo works is that it effectively raises the air pressure that the engine sees on the intake side. its just giving the engine more air. a car will run worse at a high altitude then it will at sea level, because if the amount of fuel given to the engine stays the same up in the mountains and down at sea level, the amount of air is still different because of air pressure. a turbo can make a car run like it is at sea level, even though it might be in the mountains.. but it can obviously exagerate that effect greatly.
note: i said "hopefully" about an intercooler, one, because they are good for more horespower, and two, because some cars that are turbocharged do not have them, such as the chrysler lebaron.

oh ok ok it kinda makes sense to me.. how does the engine get the air? from the turbo or the intake pipe(dont know what to call it)? can sum1 pls give me a diagram like where does the air get in and how it gets in the engine?? like air->turbo->engine->exhaust

Are you planning on boosting your civic??? Since you obviously dont know **** about boost I sugest you either :
1. spend about a year learning everything you can about turboing a Honda, then piece together your own kit
2. Buy a turbo kit, peakboost and full race make BADASS kits minus the engine management (most important part when it comes to longevity of the motor)
