Default $50 to the first person who can figure out my problem

I'm not kidding, i'll paypal $50 to the first person who gives me the solution to my problem... I've been working on it all summer and i give up

I overreved my 02 RSX-S(3-2 shift) in the beginning of summer... to make a long...LONG *** story short, i repaired the damage myself... but now i get a nasty rattle/buzzing sound coming the timing chain area when i'm between 2-3k rpms... now, two very important clues about this sound.

A: The sound WAS NOT there after the overrev when i drove it home... it only happened after i took the motor apart and put it back together myself...

B: The sound ONLY comes when the VTC Oil Control Solenoid is plugged in... if i disconnect it, it goes away, so this problem is obviously VTC related(the cam phasing)...

Parts i've replaced so far: Broken valve, valve stem seals, 1 rod and rod bearings, timing chain, timing chain tensioner, VTC Actuator.

If you have any more questions, PLEASE feel free to ask. I'll be paying close attention to this thread and like i said, $50 to the first person who figures out the problem. Thanks guys

It is not under warrenty... i did take it to acura after i tried everything... they said they were going to replace the timing chain, tensioner, and VTC actuator... the charge was $1500...

so i went back home, did it myself for $250ish... no go. even they couldnt' figure it out.

Did you put enough tension on the chain? You might need new guides.

well it's an auto tensioner and the tensioner is brand new... the guides weren't replaced but i don't see how that would be the problem given that the noise is only there when the VTC Oil Control Solenoid is connected... what do you think?

Try another solenoid, they will make noise!

is the vtc diconnection coincidental, or have you tried it again to verify?

i only ask this because the sound you describe sounds similar to that of the bearing that was failing on my waterpump.

it's the solenoid, the solenoid shouldn't effect anything around that area of the motor like that when plugged in at 2-3k rpm's. I'm willing to bet that if you try a new solenoid the buzzing will go away. good luck

i've known a few solenoids on my fishing boat in alaska to make noise. it also just so happens to be on a hydraulic pump. that might be your answer. what is the noise like again?

Did you look @ the mounts?? I had a similar sound to yours in my B18C EG, and it was the front tranny mount hanging there hitting the tranny case...I tightened it and no buzzing....

did you replace any of the valves? overreving a gear like you said can eaisly bend some valves. sounds like thats your problem unless you replaced them.

bent valves wouldnt cause problems just at 2-3000 rpm's...they would cause problems throughout the rpm range. he also would be getting any power..at all..geo metros would be faster than him.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.... i have since tried a brand new VTC solenoid, VTC actuator(cam gear), timing chain, and tensioner..... same noise. I have officially given up on the problem, it's just too hard to troubleshoot... i'll just have to drive around with it until it gets worse

Not to sound like an *** but i myself have done this, as have some friends, and i'm sure some other here reading this right now have done it as well.... PLEASE, just do yourself a favor and go over ever single last bolt and screw that was on the car before you started toying with it, yes we are guys and when we do stuff to cars we tend to have "extra" bolts and parts that we "didn't need anywayz" don't tell yourself that, check yourself over and your work make sure its all tightened down properly and then start thinking about the prob again if everything checks out
