Need some advice and insights(am I in the right class??)
I really dont know where to put this so I put it here and if the mods see it appropiate to relocate, go right ahead.
Ok, now, heres the delema. I bought the DA mostly as a project car/auto-x racer. I also wanted a nice street bruiser with a nicely setup suspensions. Now, heres the problem. I would love to auto-x, but, my first issue is with class specs and costs. I wanted to start somewhere low and work my way up. I have done a few(between 6-10) auto-xs before in a CSP MR2 just for fun and to see what it was like. I was thinking along the lines of a stock class, but the rules are so stringent that I cant even change my shoes without being bumped out of class. And, this is where a nice street driven setup vs auto-x worlds collide. Anything done to your car moves you out of a stock (which I think would be a nice start). So, my setup of koni yellows/gc/wheels and tires/various braces wouldnt do
. I think the spoken mods might put me along the lines of STS class. Not sure if I want to start there just yet as its just more money. So, now, I am just asking what has everyone done autox wise/street wise. What you think I should start, what I should learn, etc. I have been reading the rulebook as well for soloII as well as various forums and info but I am torn. Really want to race, but, really want major suspension work for a nice street bruiser/weekend cruiser(I have a beater to keep the miles off my newly acquired baby). AND, NO, WHEN I MENTION STREET BRUISER, ITS NOT INTERMS OF BEING A STREET RACER. Sorry, didnt want to come off the wrong way
Whadda ya think?? Personal experience would be greatly appreciated as I just want to know what everyone is doing race/street wise.

sts has its advantages and disadvantages
you can do more mods than stock
and your on street tires which are easier to learn on than r comps
so you might not have to buy a new set of tires
stock
if your gonna be competitive you need a set of light wheels and r comps no question
rcomps are harder to learn on and are really expensive mine are 200$ per tire
your car is setup for sts you might as well just go there and start doing mods
sounds like you got a good start allready with your suspension
really all thats left is performance stuff like intake exhaust

Stick to STS rules. They allow you the common springs, shocks, basic braces, swaybars, and bolt-on engine bits (cat-back, header, etc). Get a set of good summer tires (Azenis are the most popular) and go have fun.
The said parts are not bought yet, but, within a few weeks, with tying up a few bills, they WILL/SHUOLD be ordered. But, as with anything with my car, I want to buy once, and buy for a reason instead of just buying parts and slapping them on with no goal in sight. The only other problem in, I dont know how competitive STS is as I havent been to an auto x in a a few months (my bro moved to the track seen so have there more now) and iI have no clue whos/whats fast. But looking at some results now, as have been said before, the 1989-1991 SIs rule the class
.
I didnt even know that R compound tires were allowed in stock. But I guess when they said stock size, etc. I guess they meant 'stock size/any compound.' But, R-compound + stock height = not me. The only other problem, after the koni/gc/kosei K1 problem is attacked, what braces would be good?? I have bushings and full race traction bar in mind as well as strut braces. But whats good?? The MR2 I ran in CSP wasnt heavily modified, but it was competitive against 3-500lb lighter CRXs. I am in the DC/VA division.
I reallly appreciate the help. The damn thing is so addictive.

well i would recomend not doing everything at once
just do one mod at a time and see how it effects the performance
so if you do somthing wrong
or a part makes your car handle worse
than your arent scratching your head when you have 3-4k in your car and your getting your *** kicked by everyone
so id start with springs and shocks
and than sway bars and figure out what stiffness sway bar is best at since they have adjustable one
and than do strut bars
and you can do performance mods whenever
but if you do all that at once and your getting beat pretty badly youll have a really hard time figuring out what part caused the bad performance
what i do is a pick somone in my class that has their car setup and they arent making any changes to it and they run consistantly good times (generally the points leader) and just use them as a benchmark. So when I got r comps in stock I found i lost 2 secs compared to him. When I did shocks I lost 1 sec compared to him and so on. This way if you do sway bars for example and before you were about 5secs off his time on a 60sec course and now your 10 seconds you know the sway bar caused the gain in time. If you did them all at once you might be 2 seconds off his time and that if you would have changed that bar youd be beating him by 3 seconds.
