grooved rotor and pad...
while bedding my new pads, the pads grooved my rotor. i took out the pads to check and there was a groove/slit/crack on the pads aswell.
my first question is, should i replace my rotors or can i still use it?
if i replace them i'm planning on the cheap autozones or oem brembo blanks.
anybody know of the part # for autozone? i here they are 25 bucks or so, and have a warranty.
second question, can i use the same pad since they are brand new, and the only thing i did was bed them? or do i need to buy new pads again? i don't have a picture, and i can't be bother to take off the wheel again to just take a picture of the slit on the pad. i'll try to describe what happened to the pads.
there is a crack/slit/groove (well i dunno how to say it in words, but basically there is a chunk of padding material missing where the pad was touching the grooved part of the rotor.
here is a diagram of the pad
------
| | |
| | | the line in the middle of the pad, is the slit/hole/crack in my pad
| |
| |
------
is it still usable? since they are brand new, but have that DAMN HOLE in it?
anybody know if i can just buy one new P+ pad instead of all four fronts again?
thx, hope u guys can help me out...
(hmmm the diagram didn't show up right, well hope u guys can see what i'm talking about based on what i said.)

nah, not warped, there is a deep groove on the rotor.
the rotor i think i'm just going to buy new ones.
but the pads are brand new, i don't really want to waste money on all 4 front pads, when the other 3 don't have the hole/slit/groove on it. i just installed them for one day! ARGH!

Well you maybe still able to use your disc just have them checked by any reputable brake shop or dealership for cracks and fractures from the gooves and they should be able to smooth out the rotor on brake lathe if there not too deep. It should be cheaper then a new set I would think. What type pads are you using?

If you plan to track your car you always have chance of grooving from the high temps generated from the friction of the disc and pad. This also depends on how hard you brake. I can drive my car on OEM pads and not groove but I have seen others do the same track on OEM pads and groove there disc. So it depends abit on your driving style as well.
well, i haven't tested the pads out on the track yet. i only installed them last night, and had time to bed them in this morning. and after i bedded the pads, went home i took off the wheels to check the different squeeking noise created. saw the groove on the rotor, then checked the pad, and found a slit going through the pad too.
as you might have said, it could have been debris that got caught up inbetween the rotor and pads. the debris probably caused the groove on the rotor, and the pad.

After reading more details here which weren't in the e-mail you sent earlier, I can tell you this...the pads did not groove the rotors.
If the rotors were previously used, did you turn them to make them flat?
The Panther Plus is a very rotor friendly compound, and from just bedding in the pads, it would be impossible for the pads to groove just one rotor in one area.
Can you provide even MORE detail? Were thse rotors NEW, or previously used?
All the pads should have a slot in them...this is put into race/track pads to improve cooling and make them bite better. I really need more information to help you out...diagnosing things over e-mail/internet doesn't work very well...perhaps post some pics? Also...again, were rotors new or used or were they resurfaced?

1st what are you driving
if the rotor has a grove bring it to a shop and let them cut it
and if the pads have a crack or seperation in them (junk) get new
if you get new parts, just get Stock parts they last with the least headaches

andie...
just a clarification to everybody, the pads are great. i love them. initial cold stopping power was ok. but when they heated up, i was flying out of my seat. i haven't tested it on the track, but i think i will need a 5-point harness to keep me buckled in.
and as i said before, the deep groove on the rotor, and the chunk missing on the pad was probably created by some debris caught between the pad and the rotor. so it's not the pads problem. (i think) will post pictures so you guys and andie will see what happened, later this afternoon, or tonight.
i will give an update after a track event, as i missed buttonwillow this weekend.
