Default 83mm GSR, LS crank, 9:1 CP pistons--is this how it feels while driving NA?

Hi guys,

I just got done taking my car with the new motor for a test drive. For now I have the turbo stuff out of the car. So I was just wondering if the way my car is behaving is normal.

I believe right now my VTEC x-over is st really low, probably about 4300 (I didn't bother changing it in Crome). Also my timing is stock with no advance at all. The VTEC transition is very very smooth. So smooth that I'm wondering if it's even working, hehehe. I was able to take it all the way up to 8K RPMs, but obviously it didn't pull as hard as it did when it was stock. But is the lower CR going to make that much of a difference where you can feel it in your "butt dyno"?

I was thinking about raising the VTEC x-over to 5000 or 5500 RPMs. I was also thinking about advancing the timing to compensate for the larger bore and lower CR. But I dont know how much timing I should advance it by throughout the whole timing map.

What do you guys think?
TIA

def raise vtec, to about 5500 or 5700. it will help alot. i would also add some timing, run a b16 map or something, they are more aggresive than a gsr. my na gsr feels pretty good, nothing like boost, but pretty good.

oh also the gsr is now in the hatch. runs about a 9.0 in the 1/8.(judging from a mule i beat one night, that i have seen run 9.1 and 9.0, super close race)

Thanks I'll load up Crome and paste the B16 timing numbers onto my GSR maps.

But does anybody think I should advance timing a little bit more then what are on the stock B16 timing maps?

Sorry I didn't see you post this, I thought I was finished with this thread, hehehe. I have a Skunk2 IM so no IAB's for me.

I did some reading on the Evans tuning forums. I think I'm going to try advancing my stock GSR maps by about 3-4 degrees throughout the whole high and low cam ignition map. I dont have the turbo stuff in yet, so the changes will just be made to the vacuum portion.

Anybody think this is a bad idea?

TIA

well if you're going to add timing across the board, just give the dizzy a yank.

IIRC the dizzy can only go +/- 2 degrees. Besides when I go to start tuning my stuff with the turbo my dizzy will have to stay at 16.5 degrees and I have to adjust the timing from CromePRO anyways.
