My hatch started having a problem with cutting on and off under various load conditions while driving. It would still idle fine but after driving for a few minutes it would eventually get to the point that I couldn't go over about 2,000rpms without the engine shutting off and me having to let it fall back down to idle before refiring.
I've racked my brain trying to figure out the problem and today I decided to reflash my uberdata chip with the exact same rom I've been running. I went out and drove the car around for about 10 minutes and the problem seems to be completely gone. This is of course nice but for some reason I don't understand how a ROM can just kinda go bad. Especially since the problem seemed to be based on the car getting up to operating temperature. The way I figure it the ROM would just be bad or not.
So basically what I'm asking is it possible for a rom to just start going bad over time?
Remember, not only did you reburn the chip, you also removed it and reinstalled it. There might have been a poor connection due to corrosion or a loose connection that was making one of the pins not have a clean contact. It's called chip creep and it's sort of common in socketed components that are exposed to heat cycles. Old PCs had this sort of problem, and removing and reinstalling all the socketed chips on the motherboard would sometimes solve it.
