Default Ignition Problems. NEED HELP!

Ok, i've done a few searchs on here and gathered a bit of info on some of the common ignition problems with accords.

By the way its an 86 accord, carbed.

Anyways, first question... is the dis. cap supposed to sit slightly cocked to the side? My cap will not go on flush with the dist. I have no clue why, everything looks right.

Second... Here is my problem. #1 & #2 cylinder fire perfectly, but 3 & 4 make no difference when i pull the plug wire off. I've changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Still the same problem. I did a compression test and a leak down test and all cylinders are fine. I had the valve cover off, and i could just hear some hissing coming from the oil drains in the head (air blowing past rings).

So i'm stumped... I heard the igniters are a common problem, could this cause what im describing?

After all, there's only one ignitor...

What did your plugs look like? (You had them out for the compression test.)

Pull the plugs out, ground them and see if they fire outside the cylinder, its much easier to fire when not under compression. This test only verifies that the distributor is firing each plug and everything works while not under compression.

Two things here, #3 & #4 not firing, I see two things, they are side by side on the engine and they are side by side in firing order 1 - 3 - 4 - 2, I am looking at a blow head gasket, I would do a running compression test next and a leak down test last, DO YOU HAVE THE PLUG WIRES IN THE CORRECT FIRING ORDER, FOR REAL. Thats the third thing I see.

The answer to your second question is that you need to solve the problem you posed in your first question. The cap should not sit cocked on the base. Is your rotor fully seated? Does the side of the distributor that is cocked up correspond with the two missing cylinders? I think that there is a plate on one side of the base that slides into a groove on the cap. Get the cap right before you go bothering with compression tests.

Yes the rotor is fully seated, the cap sits cocked to one side even with the rotor removed. IIRC, the 2 missing cylinders do not correspond with the raised side of the cap.

I still have a feeling my problem is the cap though. I might have to do some grinding to the cap to make it sit flush.

grinding???? it is like putting a band-aid an a 20 inch cut , u dont need to grind it to make a cap fit properly an a car ,,obviouselly u got some thing wrong ,maybe the wrong cap???
