Boosting a C5 would be dumb. Its a awesome NA motor so it would be wasted on boost imo. You should either go with a B20 or a base model B18A or B18B would be ideal since they would be easily obtained and cheap. The B20 would have to be built up a bit and the sleeves are notorious for being the weakest link.

I've seen several friends running b18b1's on 14 psi tuned making 240+ whp.. If you don't build the bottom end for high boost and something goes wrong.. LS blocks can be had for cheap around here..

b18c1 is the best motor to me, probably because i have one......hondas arent really the same without vtec....i dont understand why u say u want more power than a b18c1 considering my boi got a stock h22 and i got a lightly modded gsr and i spank him all day everyday.....just boost a gsr and you'll be happy cause a ****** h22 wont ever touch you

I have a boosted B16 and love it. If i had to do it all over again, i would have probably started with a B18 though.

...So Type-R is your answer?

What difference does it make if you're going to boost it anyway? The R-motor is more powerful stock vs. stock, yes. But by boosting the R-motor for a less-experienced person such as yourself, swapping out those high-compression Type-R pistons out for some low-comps will be a must anyway. There are a lot of other issues...such as the stock LSD (Type-R tranny) which won't hold up under a lot of wtq/whp, and you'll have to swap it out anyway- So why pay for it in the first place?

Between the R and the GSR motor, buy the GSR for the boost, and with the money you saved buy some internals or use it to pay the shop for labor or whatever.

the B18As and Bs and B20 are good platforms as well.

If you want something different in the honda world take a... Just about every motor has been used a billion times. If you want to be different use a twin turbo setup or something like that. Asking for opinions on something and then saying you want to be different is like asking "Which shirt should I wear today? I want to be different"

Boosting a C5 may not be your best choice, but its far from "dumb". I just got back just this second from getting a ride in a friends 320 whp ITR and its fast as hellll!

I got a small question. just curious cause i see some people do this, what Compression ratio would their pistons be about if they are boosting 22-25psi and they are getting about 480-490 horses to the wheels?

Compression would be around 9:5:1 or 9:flat... I building another heavily boosted b16a2..but im not competing with hondas.im going after supras. and vettes...so if you want to do somet thing right. with boost..invest in sleeving and tunning..Ive seen people ru nning 500-600 hp on stock block (meaning not sleeving)..and crazy tuning... so what pay is what you get.. ANd different..umm twin turbo is already done.. 10sec..ek coupe..c30a2. done..mudhavi motorsports...4g63 t done by a couple but first done in pr..chevy 350 done..nopi nationals burnout car sold for 3k.so hondas and j ust about any car is not different since the tuner scene..blew up...

Go with the GSR swap. My friend has a fully built GSR putting down 400+ hp at mile high elevation. Plus I have one in my EK hatch and being that its lighter then the GSR has its benefits too. But I would agree with most everyone else and say the GSR.
