muffler pipe rotten on 94 Accord...Where to buy?
The exhaust pipe on my 94 Accord LX 5spd has rotten..and now it sounds loud. It would be indicated by number (2) in the diagram.
It is the part from where it screws on back to the drum. The drum is also rotten on the side...but it is really leaking form the piping before the drum.
What is the cheapest place I can get a good replacement from? I like oval shaped drums (regular muffler drum)...not the cylindrical ones that rices have. I do not want it to be loud, but it wouldnt be bad if it had a smooth tone to it. I live in Virginia and it is agains the law here to have non-stock mufflers (suckiest state for that law).
What price can I expect to pay to get it replaced? I was thinking maybe I could buy a replacement and just screw it on myself? any ideas? I want it to be economical...the shop gave me a quote of $200 for it. That is way too much for me. Thanks.

junk yard or factory style place like that can get you something cheap
any muffler shop can bend you a crush bent system that will fix that.
you just need an axleback to fix that, if you want to upgrade to performance oreinted system, thats different

Jeez, where to start.
If you wait long enough, you'll recieve a different suggestion for everyone who responds.
I'd suggest a "GOOGLE!" search for "Honda Exhaust" and you should not only scare up 10,000 vendors, but prices as well.

I tried searching http://www.car-parts.com which searches junk yard for the part, but the website said that most junk yards dont sell mufflers.

What is a "crush bent system"?
and whats and "axleback"? is that the name of the part that I need?
p.s. The main part that I need is the part that goes from the bolts (axleback?) to the muffler drum. I also need a drum as well, but I see alot of them online..but I dont see the pipe part that goes to it.

Sadly, thats true. They're stuck handling exhaust one of two ways.
1) leave it on the car, and remove it when there's a call for it -or-
2) Remove it from the car, inventory and store it somewhere and hope someone wants it.
As you can guess, they don't bother cuz one way it rusts away and the other way takes up storage space.
New it is, unless you catch someone here willing to part with one.

You could maybe find a cheaper one for half that price, but it will probably last half as long. If you get the factory one it will include the pipe and muffler and very easy to change. I got a cheap muffler shop one for under 100 dollars but the darn thing made my whole car vibrate at 2000-2500rpm. Went back to stock after that.
damnit i would have sold you mine a month ago, i had two of them in good shape but had to get rid of them when i moved. just ask on here, someone probably has theirs laying around. or go to a muffler shop

I've bought an exhaust pipe and muffler from Autozone for an old commuter car of mine ('88 Corsica).
The parts are relatively cheap, but I'll say that doing exhaust work is not easy. Everything is stuck together with rust, and even after you do it you have to seal the new pipe to the cat (I had a friend who welds, he did the connection for me).

I have been calling around. I found some cheaper ones, but I am concerned about the quality of those. Do the cheaper ones really rot away in 2~3~4 years? I see I can get it for about $150 or so.
Or should I just go ahead and try to get an upgraded exhaust system? Does an upgraded system really give a noticably improvemnet in power? I have a LX with 17 chrome wheels..kinda heavy....power sucks on it. Will adding an exhaust and a Intake add significant improvement in power?
I am on a maximum budget of about $200 though...although I hope to spend less.
thanks for the help

Okay, I was browsing H-T and found out that Magnaflow is probably the best bang for the buck (correct?) in terms of a nice sounding muffler. I browsed ebay, but there are so many options in terms of size. What in particular should i be looking for? I am looking for one that is the same shape like the stock muffler. What size is that? is it 6x9? . I do not want the cylindrical mufflers. I also like the DTM dual tips.
How much can I expect to pay for this? Does anyone have tips for shopping on Ebay? like are there fake ones out there? thanks.

Got my ehaust on eBay for less than the local shop wanted and its SS locals just offered regualr piping. Complete rear section was like $137 shipped and installed in my driveway. Don't take my word for it but just my 2 cents. Check eBay for your accord over 2000 auctions for 93's for me so do a lil surfin. Just check the peoples past scored and don't buy from someone with alot of bad feedback.

Was that a cat-back or an axle-back you got? That sounds like a good deal to me. What brand did you get? how did you like it?
I am hoping to hear some opinions on Magnaflow as well. Or any other that you think is a good deal for cheap and not too loud, but just has a nice sweet tone.
What performance increase can I expect to get? Will I notice the increase in power?
