Default 14b turbo how to get low psi from wastegate?

Okay, so I have a d16a6, stock motor, got the turbo kit setup and am planning on using a 14b turbo from a DSM, problem is that on a DSM the stock wastegate spring makes about 11psi, on a 2.0 liter motor.

I only want to get ~8 psi on my 1.6 liter motor. If the wastegate spring is stiff enough to be 11psi stock on a dsm, is there any way I can reduce this boost?

Somebody told me that you can't make less boost then the wastegate spring allows, and that boost controllers only will help increase boost, not decrease it past the stock wastegate spring.

Can anybody shed some light on this problem i have? I don't want to overboost my motor with the stock wastegate spring, but what options do I have?

Thanks.

I read on a miata site that.

"Yes, 14bs are regulated to ~6 psi by their internal wastegates, then the boost control solenoid (BCS) functions very much like an mbc and regulates it to a "steady" 11.5psi."

So I guess i'd be close to in the clear, but my motor is still a 1.6, and the 4g63 is a 2.0.

What about for a 16g turbo, can you decrease the boost any way with the stock spring, other then shortening or lengthening the wastegate actuator arm?

but that's on a dsm, what would that net you on a d16 honda?

no no no

on a honda itll rate anywhere from 6-8 psi

DSM's run abotu 13 psi STOCK VIA a boost solenoid controlled by the ecu. if they removed the solenoid they'd run anywhere from 6-8 psi also

i had the same concern as you.....so i bought a relief valve but the stock wastegate spring WILL let you run 7-8 psi.

Well I must be even more "unlucky" (if you want to call it that ). On the dyno, my little 14b peaked to 10 solid then falls down to 8-9ish.

However, I have my turbo clocked so that the wastegate actuator could not be mounted correctly, so I have some washers in between the actuator and mounting place on the turbo. I suppose that's why I have just a tad more pressure, since the actuator is further back from the turbo making the spring harder.

So my point is, you can only (to my best knowledge) make the 14b have more pressure than stock. You cannot decrease this value.

my old 14b spiked to about 10 and held 8-9psi. You'll be fine at that boost level with a 14b.

You need to get an adjustable rod to the wastegate to adjust it out.. Or you can bend the rod so it opens sooner too. Or weld the flapper door shut and get external wastegate.

when i first got my turbo, and boosted i was getting 8psi
now from the everyday use, i get no less than 10

every wastegate is different

some are 9, some 10 some 11

weld the flapper and go external

Very cool. Well we'll see how much the 14b puts out at first, and hopefully the motor won't go boom.

id say 170$ is worth it to give enough feel free that your motor isnt going to blow insurance.
