Default keep my boosted y7 or boosted ls

found a b18a1 longblock at a u-pull-it for 90 bux. is it worth rebuilt it and boost it or should i keep the y7? looking for 250+hp can my y7 handle that. the b18 look in pertty good shape. i would have to take the head off and oil pan.

Well for about the same price as swapping/rebuilding the b18a1 you can put in rods/pistons (eagle/vitaras) and crank over 250hp easily with the d-series. 250whp with a stock, albeit rebuilt, b18a1 is sketchy. With a really good tune you shouldn't bend the rods or melt/crack the pistons.

If it was me, I'd probably rebuild the b18, update the intake/tb, then put in eagle esp rods. With a good tune the pistons should last a while, or you can save a bit longer and get some forged slugs. Call me a *****, but I only like my **** blowing up if it has a lightable fuse.

if all you want is 250-300 rebuild the sohc with quality parts as stated above, you can do it easy, there are tons of sohc turbo guys that do 250hp almost daily...the ls is going to require more then just a rebuild...for 90 bucks i can't imagine it coming with the tranny, axles, linkage, all mounts etc...you will have to obtain all those items also...

plus when you kick the crap out of somebody and they ask what you have under the hood, you can get those funny blank looks from people when you tell them, LOL

you seem a bit misinformed. Check out the ls thread that is Snoflakes sig. I would do an Ls because its just a much better platform for boost, and it would be a much better performer out of boost

my friend finaly just went Boosted LS. He was a SOHC guru for 5 years but for $300 we parted a swap for his EG. yes, $300. On 7psi the LS has WAY more low mid and high end power. His SOHC was running on 10psi. He's a VERY happy guy now. B18a engine, was from me for 170. and the rest he baught from off a recked integra.

LS turbo. You will thank us!!!

Some of my LS turbo times,, full exhaust, full interior EG 2360lbs, 93 pump gas

7psi slicks 12.6 @ 105
7psi street tires 13.0 @ 108
10psi slicks 12.4 @ 109
10psi street tires 13.0 @ 111
12psi slicks 12.5 @ 113
14psi Slicks 12.1 @ 117
17psi Slicks no time yet

I love my LS turbo hatchy

i agree with the rest of the people who say go ls. you can make that power on a stock motor all day long with no problem. i had the boosted single cam, and it doesnt compare to the ls setup im doing now

You seem to be a bit misinformed. The only thing better about the LS platform is a dismal .2 extra litre of displacement. There are several advantages a D16 has over an LS.

Just add good internals to the D16 and boost more.

No disrespect intended for you or your setups but my 2600lbs Sohc non vtec hatch can pretty much hang with your lighter B18 powered hatch. And i also have full exhaust, full interior,99 octane, 1 cam less and .2 less of displacement and still have a relativelly Small turbo on lower than stock Compression

My engine is capible of much more than ive posted, thats just the way i drive it daily. My 12.1 @ 117 only had a 1.99 60ft. My tune is also very conservative I havent ran it on 17 yet, I'd like to run it on 20 when it gets cooler outside
nice SOHC BTW
