Running used pistons and rods in a LS (or LS/VTEC) build
Hey guys, I'm selling some parts locally and someone wants to trade a set of Eagle LS rods and 9:0:1 SRP pistons (as well as some other parts that could be used to build an all motor LS/VTEC) but I'm not sure if it's a good practice to run used rods and pistons for a turbo build, or any build for that matter. The seller claims he picked up the internals off someone else after their head gasket blew and hasn't been used since then and are "minimally used". My goal is 350whp, obviously tuned and very daily driveable. Opinions?
Thanks
Thanks

for what its worth, in my racecar, the bottom end, had been in 3 differant cars, setups, tune's. just keep slapping new bearings in it once in a while. its been in the 8's
this is crower rods from 2002 and 81.5 je pistons. that have been through hell and back.

IMO used parts are fine if you know what you're looking at. Check the rods and make sure there's no deep scratches or burns from a spun bearing. Check the pistons and rings for damage/ small cracks. If they look good, they probably are.

Yeah and if I were you I would just go ahead and replace the rings while they're out of the engine. Rings form themselves to the cylinders so if one cylinder in the old setup was slightly out of round it can cause the piston rings to not seal up the greatest. Just extra insurance.
