I vastly prefer power steering over not having it. Right now I have no belt on, so I have no PS. I miss it. It isnt too bad once you are moving, but parallel parking is a BITCH.

If I HAD to buy a car with no PS I wouldnt go through the trouble to get it installed.

BUT I wouldnt buy a car with no PS unless it was an ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY

 

I've had power steering for around 2-3 years on my 92 si, recently sold it and bought a '95 civic dx coupe, no ps, no ac, nothing.. I don't regret it.. you get used to it in no time.

 

I Have driven Honda's rack and pinion, power steering, and power steering that has been taken off. I like not having p/w.

i perfer not ot have ps since it gives you a better feel of the car

 

It depends on the car; but most Honda's are pretty small and you really dont need power steering unless you are handy-capped or have some other kind of medical condition. Parallel parking is a pain without it and also when you pull out of a parking spot and have to turn the steering wheel the opposite way to go. After you get used to it, it should be no problem.

 

no PS does give a much better road feel. i wish i could find a manual steering rack to put on my car while the motor is out, but im not stressing too much about it.

 

my 93 cx hatch has no power stearing and i'm used to it now, even wen i'm at a dead stop i can turn tha wheel.... i prefer no p/s, it gives u a nice work out too, my gunz are buff!!! hahha

it so does.

Like everyone says it is a bitch at a dead stop but that is kinda of a good thing seeing as you tend to always turn your wheel when moving......prevents you from turn the wheels at a dead stop, it actually saves you from wearing your tries a little bit.

An on another bright note.....it will build your upper body muscles.

Down side is you might not be able to palm as easily.

Turn your key off while driving (in a safe environment!) and coast around turning the wheel, this is what removing the powersteering will feel like. From a dead stop it kind of sucks, but once the car is moving the slightest bit, it's pretty easy to turn.

Of the cars i've not had powersteering on, my Civic is the easiest to turn.

 

First of all the car is going to be easier to turn if your car has the manual rack, rather than taking the belt off of the P/S pump. even with the belt off your not getting the effect of having a full manual rack (manual rack being the rack and pinion racks like the ones that come in the DXs).. theres still more **** and fluid and parts your moving around with the p/s rack. I have NO PS and i dont mind it a bit. i love it to tell the truth. i can still palm the wheel when making hard turns and still turn with one finger around parking lots. but i also have a much better feel for the road and after exiting a turn the steering wheel springs back much faster. just my 2 cents tho..

when you guys get rid of the belt do you get a new pulley or just leave it there with no pulley or cut the PS pulley of?

there's a big difference between a car that comes with no PS from factory and a car that came with PS but has the PS belt removed...

apart from parallel parking, i also prefer a full-manual rack.

 

I love my cx with no power steering. Just feels better and easier to drive since the steering wheel isn't all soft.

 

So wat is easier, taking off the pump & all the other crap or just looking for a manual steering rack? I dont have ps on my h/b anymore (getting used to it) but i still have the pump just no belt.

 

both my hondas have insane power steering, i could drive everywhere with one finger...sometimes i wish there was a liiiiitle less power going on there...

 

I am rebuilding my motor now and I will be taking the power steering out. It takes power from the engine, not that its noticeable but I need everything I can get. My main reason though is handling, I think the car handles a lot better without it.

 

having no power steering is a piece of cake. i'm pretty skinny, and i got used to it in a few days. of course i get jealous from time to time when i'm parking someone else's car, but on the freeway, i like not having power steering. i also like the feel when exiting a turn, its more direct and you get more input from the suspension. the car also isnt as jumpy when you go over rough pavement, it'll tend to track straighter.

 

When I motored swap I never put in back in, I dont regret it at all not soo bad after a week of driving. I also have no ac and where i live thats a bitch New Orleans= hot as b*lls. I may put my ac in but def not ps
