2000 civic si with 92k miles...

175 psi on all 4.

Is that too low?

 

Seems kinda low, but atleast the numbers are all in the same area. My b18a1 has compression in all four around 195 psi. Did you make sure you did it with the throttle fully opened?

 

sounds like he performed the test without opening the throttle

 

Thanks, thats kind of what I was thinking too. I originally had someone else do the test. Bought myself a compression gauge yesterday and tested it myself today. My new results are:
cylinder 1: 181
cylinder 2: 185
cylinder 3: 195
cylinder 4: 195
*Don't know why cylinder 1 is so much lower than 3 and 4.
I may check again soon. I waited 30-40 mins after running my car. Maybe it cooled a little too much, who knows...Anyway thanks for the responses. I've learned quite a bit about my first honda so far.

 

when u performed the test...did u use the same number of cranks for each cylinder?

 

crank it five times, pull the ECU fuse, go WOT.

I have a boosted B16 with 9:1 compression and i hit around 190....doesnt that seem a little low?

 

yeah, I used the same number of cranks @ wot.

 

Ok, here's what I did: pulled the 15a f/i fuse and the 15a ecu fuse. Cranked each cylinder 5-7 times (until max psi was reached). I used a $20 compression gauge from O'Reillys. I've changed the oil twice in the last 5k miles since I've owned my '00 si with Mobil 1 5w30 and k&n oil filter. Anything I've done wrong or could do better? What's average for a stock b16a with about 93k miles? For the mileage of the motor it's impressive I haven't seen not one drop of any kind of fluid (leaking) anywhere in the engine bay and my b16 seems to pull quite hard for stock. But then again I'm new to Japanese engines, and I don't know exactly how hard a "healthy" stock b16a pulls. I've owned too many American cars for too long...

 

The numbers are decent for a car with 93K on it. My built motor is 185ish with 9.0:1 pistons in it. Numbers are always dependent on the gauge, it might read higher on another gauge. The big thing is that they're within 10% or so from each other.

use the same number of cranks for each cylinder...if u dont ur results wont be accurate...if ur so concerned about the compression, do a leakdown test.

 

I got 1500PSI across the board in my 6000HP Tempo. WWHHHOOOAAAA DUUUDDEE!

195 Should be the right pressure, same number of cranks each cylinder, and WOT.

 

put a big turbo on it jack the boost up and then you'll have sufficient compression
