Default Whats it like driving a moded car in the state u live in?

So basically I'm curious what is it like having a moded car (specifically honda) in the state u live in. Be specific. Dont just say it sucks or its cool. I hate CA & I'm looking to move eventually when I have more money. Obviously there are many things I care about, but one of them is working on cars & it just sucks in CA. So let me know what it's like in ur state.

Let me start, California-
Pros
Many local tuners
Many local shops, builders & parts
Big import scene
Several tracks to race at, drag & road courses

Cons
91 octane gas
Every mod needs to be CARB approved
Toughest smog- visual so all mods need carb approval plus very tough emission standards
Must smog every 2 years
Cops target imports & write fix it tickets for all non carb approved mods
In some cites now cops can impound & sell any car used in street racing
Roads suck, pot holes everywhere
Traffic sucks
Theft, hondas get stolen daily & chopped for parts

Blah, blah, blah.... I could go on forever, but this gives u a general idea. So help me out guys, talk about ur state.

old roads that get torn up from semi's & rain & so on.... Then the state is too cheap to fix them.

I live in Indiana and we have to take Smog every two years as well, Not to mention tuner shops are few and far between. Plus side - there are plenty of mustang driving rednecks to race and watch cry.

Oregon - Good Amount of shops, with an enormous amount of fast cars, the police are profiling loud lowered vehicles more and more, but for the most part stick to the dodge neon and honda accord crowd when pulling people over, they are just starting to redo a lot of roads now but is still crappy in most areas, even though we are taxed like some ****'s. Plus side, cruising around in portland is fun and there are a lot of backroads everywhere, beach is 1 hour away.

I'm in knoxville,tn.. Cop's don't harrass the imports around here.. they really have no ******* clue about motor work, never ask to pop hoods, never been pulled over for a mod on my car..

Roads do suck, pot holes are a major problem.. They are currently in the process of paving all the main roads..

No smog

im lucky living in florida, no smog (knock on wood) cops arent too bad if u drive smart. and most cops dont care about under your hood. they just write too many tickets for street racing when u are driving fast and a buddy is behind you. and when u are racing they seem to write speeding tickets. weird. this is my area with is central/south east florida. i cant complain about roads in my area.

Illinois isnt bad...Strict tinting laws, but the emissions is pretty much whatever. Only problem is unless you are in Chicago, there is no one that knows anything about imports. 4 cylinders are mysterious things around here!

You took the words out of my mouth! I have been fined 3 times now for tinting my front side windows. I still have it on there because I think my car looks shitty with just the back windows tinted. LOL, yeah nobody here knows about imports unless you are in Chicago and even there it's not as big in some other states. IL and the Midwest is V8/Muscle Car country from what I have seen.

The best part about it, if you're driving down the street in a tricked out import you will get waaay more attention than almost any other car because you don't see them all over the place over here!

Streets do suck around here, especially those freakin railroad tracks. My ride is dropped 3" - nuff said. Well overall I like all the attention I get because there are not many around here.

Im in CT and I have no problems. I bought my car in PA with a blown motor and swapped in the ITR motor. Passed inspection and BARELY failed emissions, (with no emissions equipment on). Cops dont really care in my down, but in the smaller and richer towns they **** with you. I've never been asked to pop my hood, never gotten a "fix-it" ticket. **** i drive my car everyday with my yellow headlights and no-cat (test pipe) with no issues. Potholes can be a large problem, so can shitty drivers. Theft isn't bad at all, but the threat is there. Overall I love CT.

Its great here in SC, theres no smog test or inspection of any kind, I searched the online DMV law book for this state and the only laws I could find were the vehicle must have a muffler, 27% window tint is the limit, no visible blue lights, and some more I forgot. You can go to jail for 6 months if you get caught street racing, but 2 of my friends got a ticket for reckless driving for it. I got pulled over the day I finished my turbo install cause of smoke (my car was smoking like a chimney cause the damn turbo was bad), but I just told the cop it was cause I spilled oil on my exhaust and it was burning off. He even said he liked my car. But he did tell me I had to take off my tinted license plate cover, and I did for about 2 weeks, then I put it back and its been like 2 years now and i've been pulled over plenty of times without the cops saying anything about it. Ive driven by cops parked in the median clocking people and gave em a taste of the side dump wastegate (oh its loud too). This has to be one of the best states for cars, except for the shitloads of undercover cops. I heard that in Cali there were no undercover cops that could pull you over for speeding?? it that true?

of what i know all undercover cops in ca are for gangs & drugs & such. not speeding, the cops for traffic laws are all in the typical black & white's. although i've heard they they do some undercover stuff to find out about street racing, although i've never seen it myself.

thats what I figured they did. My friend from LA said if an unmarked car got up behind you with blue lights flashing you could just flip them off and keep going. haha

they can technically give u a ticket if they wanted to, but it not what they want to do. they have other stuff they need to take care of. for them to actually pull u over u must be doing some f'ed up ****.

Lets add more to Cali,
Roads do suck, road work everywhere.
CHP will even check under your car for cats, or lack there of, if its loud.
Saw a GSR that was ****** with me get pulled over and hood popped/exhaust fucked with on the way to work. I love my stock lookin exhaust.
Cops have gone to street races, posed as racers, then called in the team and arrested over 75 people and impounded over 200 cars in a single sitting.
F**K the CARB BULLSHIT and all that emissions crap.

If I didnt love the bay so much I would move to Oregon and run my **** so rich my eyes will burn just for the **** of it.

Rice Rockets everywhere with stupid illegal **** on their cars, too loud, drawing unnessesary attention. They ruin it for all of us

Texas

Roads are great for the most part
gas is cheaper than most places
very large import scene
quite a few tuners and supporters of import racing

bad things...for me i am not sure.
i dont feel that emissions testing is a bad thing since i like to breathe air that is clean.
there is theft, but i moved out of the city and can usually get away with shooting someone trying to steal my car.
oh yeah and street racing, they are pretty strict on, and again i like it, after all the track is a better place to race.

and for you guys wanting to move to oregon, you may want to know they recently voted to adopt cali emissions standards.

That sucks.

What's the emissions testing like in texas? Do u need carb #'s, & is it pretty easy to pass the emissions part?

Also, anyone from nevada here? Help me out guys, nevada is where I'd like to move.

Great here in MD.. Cops arent allowed to look under my hood..

Even if they could they cant do anything about it..

$50 to a "friend" gets me through emissions every 2 years..

i pass emissions with flying colors in my jdm h22 accord wagon, with a skunk2 intake manifold, chipped p13, and high flow cat.
Tx doesnt care about CARB numbers sicne Cali law means nothing to Texas law enforcement. A lot of chain emissions check places are not allowign aftermarket intakes to pass now sicne they dont know if they are legal or not, and htey wont risk their jobs over it.
