Default short shifter question

Ive been thinking about getting a b&m short shifter. Some of my friends say not to get one because they will mess up syncros. I was wondering if this is true and if its worth the money to get one.

As I read in another thread

Short shifters dont kill transmissions, drivers do.

You are a real idiot Bjorn20 . . Short Shifters do mess up your syncros and transmission . I wouldnt really recommend getting a short shifter unless you really want one and dont wine about it not popping in 1st gear. Trust me look up more about short shifters and take a poll ask any racer if they got a short shifter and recommend one to you.

Yes, do some research on shifters in general. You will find out they are pretty much a blessing and curse. In the end if you can't stand the look of the stock shifter, then go for it, otherwise I'd just leave it in and spend your money somewhere else.

i had one and it was nice. it was only ebay brand tho. it shifted nice and stuff till i broke it. it snapped rite in half. let me tell ya droven home in only second from 45 mins away sucks. ok well i put in a stock shifter and a month later the trans blew. i think that the 4 months of driven hard every night messed up the trans and when i put in the stock shifter it just blew.

i got b&m shifter and love it. never had a problem for over two years. DO your self the favor and stay away from ebays $10 shifters. I heard people are so used to the regular shift throws that they grind their trans. because the throw is so short. Some people i guess have problems adjusting their shifting once the short shifter is installed.

I have not clue nor will I argue about whether a short shifter will screw up a tranny. But ponder this, why would you want to move the shifter farther away from the driver? In this instance of putting on a short shifter you will lose some control because the shifter is now moving further away from the driver and steering wheel.

I am actually going to extend my shifter to move it closer to me so that there more control out on the track. My buddy has extend his shifter in his race car for this same exact reason. And I would also ask the question why do rally cars extend the shifters? So that they has less time from steering wheel to shifter so that they can have as much control as possible.

driver is the main factor in damaging syncros in trannies. Try opening the trans of a car with a SS and take an inside caliper, measure the grooves where the forks rest on the syncros, if you're one of those guys who shift hard with your SS, then you should notice the grooves being wider and out of spec. You keep driving in the same manner and next thing you know the grooves are so wide that the forks just dance in place w/o moving the syncros towards the gears at all

You'll only screw up your synchros if you pull or push on the shifter too hard. Same can be done with the stock shifter.

I've got a short shifter in each of my CRX's and I have never had any probs. In fact I have shortened-short shifters. I install them, then cut off about 1/3 of the top - just enought so the shift **** goes on. I use ***** that have three set screws to hold them on, then JB Weld the screws. Works GREAT!!!

well, for one, a short shifter for sure doesnt mess up a tranny. wat actually messes it us is cuz now that the shifting throw is shorter and quicker, a novice driver cant compensate the difference in the hand movement (shifting) in conjunction with the movement of the foot(clutch). so basically the hand is now moving quicker to wat one's foot is used to, and u start grinding. the difference between the 2 b&m shortshifters is that the blue one is more expensive and it feels much more solid and i think a little bit shorter. so please, kno ur **** before u post something like xDriftxStarx did....u dont have to be an *** dude.

I didnt call you a no0b because u just registered on honda-tech.com the real reason was that i know alot of people that install short shifters in there cars is that 80% of them say that it aint even worth the time and money getting one & yes you are right it doesnt mess up your Gears sorry if you mis-understanded me.

EDIT : its also that i guess its how you install them

Get the B&M It has a real nice feel. Just make sure you get the polyurethane bushings to complete the job.

i dont mean to be an *** myself, its just u didnt have to be so negative towards dat otha dude callin him an idiot and all. And again not to be an *** but your still wrong lol. it really is a great upgrade, it totally improves shifter feel and it is relatively cheap. it makes u feel like ur in a whole different car. but its all good mang, no hard feelings. yea the bushings help too.
