Default mini me question

i got a sohc non vtec right now. y7, 96 hatch, obd2, if i throw a vtec head on thats obd1 am i gonna be going slower then i am now (sohc non vtec) thats what this kid is trying to tell me. he said he knows someone who did same swap as me and his was slower then his stock non vtec motor. is this true?

i heard that you actually gain around 25hp by doing a mine me swap , because you get the vtec if you wire it up correctly, also you can use y8 head taht's ob2 and don't have to worry about converting from ob1 to ob2

its worth doing the mini-me. although the stock y7 tranny is going to hold you back. i'd look for an ex tranny to go with the vtec head. biggest performance gain is gonna be a tranny swap. unless you go f/i.

i dunno if it's worthit, i was gonna do it my self , but like sohc_boy said get an ex tranny it has much shorter gears, i'm gonna do a whole d16z6 swap and just booost the bish, and for that z6 head, you know you gotta convert your car to obd1 right?

i have a 95 si tranny and a 97 ex tranny.... if you want either of em let me know. if i were you i would run a z6 head with a y8 intake manifold and some higher comp pistons. i have this in my rex and it runs great, only set back... zc pistons which yeild a 12+ cr in my sohc zc block, so the timing is pretty 'tarded... atleast til i get my hondata in.

I gained 16hp to the wheels doing the y7/y8 mini-me. Dyno @ stock was 95hp/93ft-lbs. After the head, 111hp/100ft-lbs. My car is a 99, head is 00. Just had to run the 3 wires to the stock y8 ecu(vtec sol, vtec psi & knock). The back of the y7 block was tapped already for the kock sensor. Im happy with the results, makes the car more enjoyable.

Mine has an intake, header and the head has been ported, polished and decked. Y7 has 45000miles on it. So not likely without changing internals.

i dnt think obd's dont matter when it comes to the head. Also If you do the swap correctly then it will be worth it. Given that you get things at a good price. Seeing that you can get a z6/y8 for anywhere from 300-600, complete tranny and all. And when you factor out the price off all the mini me stuff it can come close to what a full swap would be.

weren't you still running the long gear tranny with your mini-me? yes a turbo will be faster than a mini-me but there are people who don't want to go the f/i route. really alot of people would be happy with the mini-me and a tranny swap.

if its just the bare head it doesnt matter, but it does matter if you use the old parts from the 'new' head. if you retain the things like intake manifold ( and all its sensors and such ) and distributor that are obd2, you shouldnt have to worry about converting.

No, I had a Z6 tranny and an exospeed stage 2 cam.

What, the people that want to go slow? Theres absolutely no reason to do it.

Its just worthless. Its a lot of time and money wasted for little results. I was amazed at how much only 3 psi did for my car (i'm on 6 now). Boost > *

So if all i do is swap the heand and keep intake manifold the same and all, i could jsut get an obdII ex ecu and wire v-tec and not have to convert to obdI. I have a 97 civic LX Y7 and i want to convert to z6. am i going to have to go to obdI is the real question i guess
