Default What Causes an Engine To Run Rich Suddenly?

My friend has a jdm b16 and he increased the compression. It was running fine for a year then suddenly the exhaust started smelling like gas and the meter says he's running rich. What can suddenly cause it to run rich? Where should we look first? Thanks.

A stuck open injector would cause it.

A misfire will not ignite the A/R mixture and make it seem like it's running rich, when it's actually just not firing at all.
